Sterling Grey dash and console

Well this is my FINAL mod :o :o :o

As some of you may know i wrapped my dash in carbon fibre effect last year and it started to wrinkle quite badly. This was probably because the alu gets so hot in summer. This really was a pain as i couldnt be bothered to take the car apart again :( . So it stayed for a while looking rubbish until finally i stripped it of back to the alu finish :| .

The alu sections look quite good but after i'de put the champagne interior in they just looked washed out, dull and unglamorous. I can see why champagne mostly gets specced with a piano black pieces as the gloss finish kind of works well with the cream colour.

So, i thought i would try Sterling Grey like the exterior paint to tie it all in together and compliment the champagne seats and cards. I used to own a Fiat coupe a long time ago so body coloured dashes are something that i think works well and now all the citroens and all sorts are doing it i thought this would bring the car up to date to.

I think like the quad spot rear lights i may be the first to do this mod :D

Oh and i also wrapped the door handle trims in silver as the girlfriends rings were playing havoc with the paint :roll: (i'll let you know how this holds up)

Might have been better matt, i painted the dash in my last car, the sunlight catchin it was a right bastard!

I thought about a DIY job but wanted a really good glass like finish so took it to a bodyshop. Plus with the alu having that grain like texture i knew it would need some kind of filling to get rid of that.
When something that big and prominent in the cabin is staring at you you dont want a crappy finish and i know my limits!

Aquazi - i know what you mean, the carbon wrap felt much more tactile and 'interiorish' if that makes sense and im having to get used to reflections of things from the dash now.
It does look very nice though and if the piano black guys can deal with it then so can i :D Oh and with the added benefit of not seeing all those finger prints!!

IMP - it was real alu

Which will lead me on to selling my old set soon.

May I ask how much the body shop charged. I brought an OEM CFL centre section off eBay over a year ago but have never got around to fitting it because I don't think it will go to well with the remaing Alu dash.

Jan - i paid 90 to have them sprayed

It does look a lot more subtle than i thought. Sterling Grey is quite an anonymous colour i guess. I just wanted something smart, a bit classy.

Having had the carbon wrap and now this im certain that the OEM carbon fibre found in M's is certainly the best finish as its got the warmth and luxury you need in an interior. I couldnt find a set at a good price though so this was next option, and it is a bit different to which i like :)

This is the problem with the brushed Ali trim also which was one of the reason I changed it for CFL.

I Didn't mean to take anything away from it... Does look stunning... Subtle and goes well with the grey trim on the stereo.

You could go all out and have your steering spokes to match... I saw in my brochure the full individual interior with custom steering wheels too :tumbleweed:
 
That looks good but a bit too tasteful for me

tiger look fun fur could complement our dice.
I hadn't thought of doing the dash#
I will do it while the Mrs is out...

Mwahh ha ha
