Hi Guy
As anybody removed their multi function steering wheel for a refurb. I have found a good refurb specialist local to me but need to get it off to send to them. I am taking it off road for March while the wheels are repainted,so would be an ideal time to do the steering wheel. If somebody local to me could help or knows someone I am more then willing to reimburse you. I am in West Midlands Staffordshire

Hi,

Its very easy to remove, im sure there is a guide in the how to section.

You need to remove the air bag first, this is done by sliding a flat blade screw driver in the holes behind the wheel, there is a leaver spring either side, one side at a time feel for the spring, push hard and pull that end of the air bag. unclick the air bag wires and then you have a 17mm nut to remove the wheel, (plus 2 clips for the MF) 10 minute job max

Don't forget to disconnect the battery before working on the airbags
Regards

The air bag removal can be quite fiddly: here a youtube vid I watched before I removed my steering wheel:

Guys I am totally useless when it comes to these sort of things, and if I take this apart it will not go back together.

I assume you're local to the m6 toll and not the dartford toll?

If you do happen to be from the south I'll happily lend a hand.

One question guys I will take the Steering wheel off then send it to the refurb guy who will want it for a couple of weeks, can I reconnect the battery after I have taken the wheel off

if you want to leave the airbag sitting there connected with a risk of it going walkabout if someone bumps the car, be my guest

Use Royal steering wheels, you won't have to wait a couple of weeks. He can send you a new wheel and you send your old one back to him once your new one is received

When you say "slippery", is it shiny? Could you post a photo as it would be mad to replace the wheel if it's simply dirty, not worn?

The colour has gone on the top of the wheel, wear and sunlight I should think. I did get a quote for a restoration but that was £65 so at £120 its a no brainer for all new, plus I have ordered the new one to be perforated leather at 3 & 9 oclock. I have also ordered some brand new spoke trims. :D

Royals have got mine at the moment, cant wait to see the finished wheel and fit it!...does seem to have gone up since last year now £120+P&P , £110 last year.
