This is not a message the prime minister should have been sending out to the people at a crucial and very dangerous time. Nobody deserves the virus but did the PM endanger peoples lives with these dumb comments.?? Silly old Boris....

You've never made a mistake in your life? Must be nice being on that high horse!

Christ, some of the vile comments coming out of some people at the moment is really depressing... feel like just pulling the plug on the server sometimes :(

I wouldn't blame you, the way people treat one another on here is disgusting and it seems to be getting worse.

Start handing out a few red cards, the rest would then get the message as it's only a few pushing the limits.

I honestly don't understand it... I don't stand outside clapping, not because I don't support the NHS, but because it's right when I am putting my child to bed and also I don't see that it makes a difference. However, if people want to do it then great... if it makes them feel better then even better. I also don't attend Church (even when there isn't a lockdown), but if people want to do it then that's fine with me.

If people want to clap for Boris then you know what I have to say about it... nothing... it's up to them. I don't see why people cannot just "not clap" rather than feel the need to try and score political points during a time of crisis.

I have never had to play headmaster on this forum, it's done a great job (since 2007) of self regulating, but this crisis has definitely brought the worst out in people... not just on the forum but on Facebook as well.

Will see how we get on in the next few days, but the way we are going we'll end up with a blanket ban on Covid-19 talk.

Thank you. It is the recently emerging need to use it as a political platform that I find saddening. We are all in this situation together, regardless of what we think. No one in government is knowingly making a wrong decision, just trying their best.

Personally, I am trying to throw a bit of humour into as many threads as I can, to lighten the mood a little.
I wish I was stronger willed and could avoid this thread every time it appeared at the top of my unread list, but there's a kind of morbid curiosity that drags me in. Going to work harder to leave it unread from now on though and concentrate on more exciting topics, like Smartbear's weight loss and Scootr's rainfall issues :)

I for one would be very happy with a Covid-19 ban, in fact this will be my last comment on that subject.

On reflection, sorry for the reflections :P

Very emotive subject obviously and one that has real consequences for potentially all of us as individuals and definitely the globe, something we haven’t seen in our life times before. People are reacting in ways they wouldn’t normally I suspect, stuck at home, fed up, worried, and the worst thing as far as being stuck at home, behind a keyboard with such a subject.

Quite honestly from what I’ve seen over the last 5 years on here, which isn’t long, I don’t think in the cold light of day, any of the quarrels have real meaning, hackles are raised for the reasons I’ve said, and there’s too much time on some of our hands but I really don’t think any of it is malicious for a minute, any of it. Human nature takes over at times, we can be the best and worst at any given time. I doubt anyone wants a REAL bun fight if they’re honest, there’s just keyboard reactions being thrown around, if all were on a Zed run in the country there wouldn’t be any of it, so while it’s getting pretty hot at times and makes for some uncomfortable reading maybe we all need to breathe in and get out of the woods so we can see the trees and realise we’re not really in a war with each other. Peace all.

I am perfectly happy if you want to lock this thread, or even delete it.

I’m not so active on the forum these days, but it’s still my go-to-site usually whilst at work, or at home to escape for a few minutes and just read about cars, or interesting / funny stuff and escape for 5 minutes. There aren’t many places online for that, especially at the moment.

Every time I click on “new posts”, there’s a slinging match going on. :(

I don’t think people would talk to each other in such vitriolic terms if they were face to face.

Hateful, spiteful and vile behaviour/comments, usually say far more about those spewing it, than it does about what they aim it at.

The forum rules and guidance section gets it completely right in my view. I don't think some recent posts measure up very well against them. Other forums I've been on would have taken down some of these posts or even banned the authors long ago and I'm very surprised this has not happened. Having said that censorship is probably the last thing any of us want, but the rules are clear:

Respect

Please be respectful of others on the forum. Personal attacks will not be allowed. There is an "ignore" feature in your control panel, so you can ignore someone if they are winding you up. If you don't wish to do this then simply report the offending post and the mods will deal with it in a timely manner.

At the time of writing we have not had to ban anyone from the forum, that says something about the people on here. If you give respect I can guarantee you will get respect in return.

"Trolling"

Do not post in order to anger other members or intentionally cause negative reactions. For a given post, this can be a subjective call, but a pattern of such posting or an especially egregious case will get you banned. Basically, don't try to pick fights. Knowingly posting false information is also prohibited.
