State of Market

The car that started this thread has been relisted.....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-3-0si-2007-Sport-Coupe/274023511260?hash=item3fcd12f4dc:g:f-0AAOSwSy5dUusP

I’m thinking it might be a bit of a shed! Fit of exhaust looks dubious for a start :?

Seems like a good thread to discuss the current state of affairs across the marques , it really is a eye opener when you start scanning the classifieds .
How about a later shape 6 series for the price of a same year 2.0 E89 :o https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201907039685708?onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&price-from=11000&postcode=bb120hr&sort=price-asc&price-to=20000&radius=1500&advertising-location=at_cars&model=6%20SERIES&make=BMW&page=1

I remember paying £32k for a 2012 model(M sport) back in 2014 and I thought that it was a lot of car for the money even then. They are cracking value now for sure and they offer a brilliant performance/economy mix. I put 70k miles on it in just under 3 years and it was a great car, it returned 40mpg as well which I thought was great for the performance.

Granted that is a Se but there are Msport models for not much more , would these not have been more than a M4 at original list price ?
Yes and I believe mine was £68k new before any options, although they do come pretty well specced as standard in fairness.

It’s an interesting point really

Mostly I see high mileage and not especially nice stuff for sale these days

I’d imagine that the high mileage tat will eventually dwindle away leaving the low mileage mint cars

The rubbish will bring down the price of the good ones for a while .. then they will hold or appreciate

But I have no idea where that point will be

:)

So as the owner of a higher mileage car - I’m not feeling the love!
Not all higher mileage cars are ‘tat’ and not claiming my own 118K car to be a mint example.
Wear items like the driver’s seat bolster seem to show relatively early signs of wear - especially if you are big or tall.
The matt finish on my steering wheel has some wear.

Externally: I have the usual foglight issues, naturally some stone chips and the odd mark or two.
All of which I’ve seen on far lower mileage cars.
But does that make it ‘tat’?

I am shortly selling my own car and planned to offer it on the forum, before elsewhere. But now feeling paranoid!
She’s going to BMW for a service this month. Perhaps I’ll ask about the scrappage scheme?
:(

Totally with you as i suspect will many other forum members so don't be put off listing it on here .
Ive had enough cars (not just Zs) to know that low mileage does not always make a mint car , often its far from it , one of the best condition Zs i had of the 14 was a 123k 23i E89 .
With a car that is 12/13 years old , will have had 2-3-4 ++ owners then its common sense to buy it on current condition , history , how it drives , no of owners & lastly for me is the colour + spec

Some great advice from mr wilks - as always!

The seat bolsters are a strange one. Both my E86s came with Pearl Grey M-Sport seats, but the driver's bolster looked far more worn on my 1st one at 54K miles than my current one does now at 90K. I can only guess it's how people get in and out of the car.

If it isn't too late to save your fog-lights it's definitely worth drilling a few holes in the bottom of the lens. Mine were clear when I got the car, but after a year or so misted up. I was in two minds about putting holes in them but in the end decided I had nothing to lose by trying it, and they've stayed clear ever since - which I'm sure has saved the reflectors.

Good luck anyway when the time comes.

Thanks Mr. Tidy!
Appreciate your advice:
I’ve done the foglight mod: Their clear now.
But have some sediment in the bottom...
The driver’s bolster is something for the next owner to consider - I’m careful getting in and out of the car.
But at 6ft 4” it’s always been tight!

I wasn’t having a go at your car .. of course you can have a nice well maintained high mileage car

The point I was making is that the Zeds are now in the price point where they are within the reach of a “certain demographic”

Lots are being modded .. stripped .. abused .. broken .. etc

You only have to look on some of the fb groups to see what happening to a lot of the cars

Once they have gone as they surely will only the straight well looked after cars will be left .. and at that point prices will firm and maybe rise

For those of us who have 2005 on 911’s low mileage is often cause for alarm as “garage queen” 997’s are often trouble.

Hi Earthdweller
Sorry for a slow reply and thanks for your response.
I appreciate your perspective and the logic.
I have seen some awful cars for sale and even at smaller dealers.
But we never know who is on the forum and maybe some members simply have the best car they can afford?
Sorry if I sounded too defensive: At the time I posted,
I was away on holiday and literally contemplating my car’s future!
