Standard Speaker Replacement, which one to get?

Morning everyone.

So after driving my new 2.5i and loving it...I could listen to that inline 6 by itself all day.
But I decided today to try the stereo, and being a music fanatic, I realized that the default speaker system leaves a lot to be desired.

Could someone recommend nice set of replacement speakers.

I was thinking on getting the Bavsound speakers as they come with the correct sizing, and they only need fitting really.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can't say iv heard them myself but I'm only hearing good stuff about these.

Don't forget tho you can walk into Halfords and get speakers 3 times better than the standard BMW ones for £50 a pair.

Minihen_LDN, Sure will ;)

ESP, Yeah I've been reading reviews online, and they mostly positive. I mean given the quality of the sound right now, I think anything might be better.

I think I'll go ahead and purchase them...and will report back with details of delivery, install pictures and review of how good or bad it is. ;)

I am very interested in the feedback report also, specially as they have a sale on at present.

Look forward to your update!

Would like to find a way to maybe update the subs and rear midranges on my system also though if I were to go with this.

Edit: would probably go for the ipod / bluetooth setup also if I did this

Disca, I am also looking for a way to add a little more Bass line to the car. But want to do it in a discreet way ie: no having a massive sub on the back. It seems that Bavsound, do a sub that fits under the footwell and out of sight. Unfortunately they don't it for the E85. :(

Yeap saw that also, added my name to the list waiting for it in the hope it may prompt them to do something :D

Sad news for us Brian, was in contact with BSW support and they said the following:

we don't have plans for a sub for your vehicle at any point. Too low production to make a sub that's specific to your car.

:( They do have one being made for the E89 though :'(

I have two hertz six inch woofers fitted in the foot wells of my E85 and they give excellent depth over stock stuff although they are part of a component three way set up. This negates the sub in the boot. Although I do have a removable boot sub!

I would like to find replacement ones for my stock behind the seat subs preferably, might have to take it to an audio place eventually and see what they could do.

Hi Cavey.

How did you get the subs installed? Did you make a mold of the footwells first?

Would be great to see some pics of your installation, if at all possible.

Thanks

Bran

Bran,

The subs or woofers came part of a Hertz 3 way component system including cross overs etc. Source Sounds in Sheffield did the install and all looks as per normal.

I would not bother with the units I have shown behind the seats as these are no near the quality of the fronts.

I think the Z4 is a very diffcult vehicle to get a decent thud without a boot sub! 6inch JL are a nice filler but no substitute for proper noise

This is a good thread! @Cavey1638 are you using a standard HU and cross overs from original system?

Still got my 1100~ (cant remember exact spec) watt Vibe Bav12 active enclosure woofer at home, doesn't fit in the zed without stealing all the boot though, loved that thing :D

Need to sell it eventually...

I'd be interested to see how that looks in person as not found an aftermarket HU that fits nicely with the Z4, they all look out of place in my opinion.

+1 for the flip up screen though, more gadgets the better!

Cavey1638, Great stuff. Thanks for the pics.
Clean install, that's exactly what I am after.
How much better is the sound, in comparison?
Also, if you don't mind me asking, which Hertz speakers did you get?

I've been looking at these: http://caraudiosecurity.com/165a3-3-way-components as a cheaper alternative to the BSW I mentioned on the first post. AS the postage from US to UK is quite hefty.

Thx

Hi,

The speakers are Hertz Hi Energy HSK 163 components fed from a Hertz HPD4 Amp. The sound is 5x better than the stock stuff.

Cavey

Not sure about the Focal stuff as never listened to a setup using their speakers. I note however the Hertz is rated at max 300 watt whilst the focal stuff is half that.
