Squeaky brakes

Hi all,

What's the most likely cause of my squeaky brakes? They can only be heard when coming to a stop, so in the last few metres of braking.

I've just had some 12mm wheel spacers fitted to the front and I'm pretty certain the squeaking started when they were fitted.

Thanks all,

Alex

Anyone?! :)

Having read another couple of posts on the same subject I thought I'd answer some of the questions that were asked:

- they're not new brakes - pads and discs have done about 5k
- it happens consistently under the same conditions (not just it in the wet or for the first few miles)

Maybe I should try the technique for bedding them in...

Sometimes doing the bedding in process can help them not squeak. I've had semi decent success with that. They could be dirty, or the anti squeal paste might need to be reapplied.

If they haven't been bedded in properly that may help. Check the pad surface though, as Aebous said, there is every chance they are dirty and just need a clean up. I take it these are just stock pads?

Can't see how fitting the wheel spaces would make a difference, unless something's been moved - check the back plates. If you jack a corner up and turn the wheel that should help to isolate the sound.
