squeaky brakes at low speeds.

my brakes like to squeak when i apply medium pressure at low speeds. if i press on them hard they don't squeak, same with light pressure.

any ideas? i only bought they car in march this year so am unsure when they were last changed.
 
What model have you got? The Z4M manual mentions the OEM brakes can be noisy. Mine were at slow speeds when warmed up.

Different pads and a careful pad installation using some high temp grease where metal rubs against metal can help.
 
Mine make a noise right now, same situation, despite being new and bedded in properly :roll:

I think it may be dirt - with the hosepipe ban I simply can't clean my wheels as well as I used to, which may mean they are staying dirty :(

i have an 03 Z4 3.0. i think they are OEM pads. it's just a little embarrassing when pulling up at a set of lights and all you can hear is squealing brakes :(
 
Dont worry be happy if they squell they work, any way who needs brakes!!!! . drive at a good speed and stamp on um do again at least three times bet they stop you and mybe stop shouting. it's when you cant stop you need to worry. :rofl: :rofl: :driving:[youtube][/youtube]
 
There's nothing wrong with squealing brakes, except they are highly annoying and even embarrassing. Gargybloke makes a good point about grease, but be sure to apply sparingly. There are various materials that are supposed minimise squealing, usually applied between the pad backing plate, the shim, if any, and the piston faces. Sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't.

Certain pad materials are just more prone to squealing. If it really bothers you, if all else fails, you may have to switch to a different composition.
 
Mine do this too, it really annoys me, but I'm not sure it annoys me enough to replace the pads/disks!

My front pads and discs are brand new - less than 1,000 miles on them, and they re squeaky :cry:

There was plenty of copper slip between the pads and the callipers when they were done, so I reckon it's dirt. Either that or I burnt all the copper slip off :evil:

Worth knowing that an expensive change doesn't necessarily fix the problem. Cheers for letting me know!

Copper grease works for a while but can disappear over time due to heat and getting in there with the pressure washer. Mine squeal but then so do virtually everyone's in London so no one really notices me :D

You can take the pads out and stick a small amount of grease on the backs to see if they calm down. Some other people like to use 'shims' behind them pads but it's not proven to be 100% effective
 
Squeal is often caused by the pads becoming glazed, typically happening on cars used in city driving where the brakes don't get sufficient temperature or friction to clean them off. To de-glaze them try two or three progressively harder braking manoeuvres from speed without actually stopping and drive for a bit to cool them off (if you stop to soon you can deposit burnt residues on the disc and cause vibration). Worth a try.
 
Mine do the same and I have had all my brakes changed not long after getting the car. Agree it's annoying though I just try to ignore it although can be hard at times.
