Sports mode steering seems wrong.

Had my 2015 E89 2.0 for a few months now. Sports mode gives much better throttle response but doesnt seem to make much difference to steering. In fact the steering seems slightly lighter in sports mode than comfort mode.. Any opinions on this please. Is something wrong ?

Mine is a 2009 30i and at first I too didn't find much difference in the steering between comfort and sport mode lately however I have the opposite feeling to you where I do think it does ever so slightly firm up the steering. But I could be just imagining it. :?

It’s supposed to lessen the steering assistance in sport mode, it’s not a big difference though.

Worst aspect of the car is the steering, they should have gone standard hydraulic system.
All to get another 2mpg out of the car, so BMW claim.
Although i do believe the set up is slightly different on later models.

Sport does give a more effort steering feel - I agree tho that it not a huge change.
Just go out and hold the wheel very lightly with finger and thumb and give the steering a little wiggle - then put it into sport and do the same again. You will feel the difference.

But I am saying mine feels wrong - it definitely feels lighter in sports mode - about the centre anyway. That’s the point of my post. I’m wondering if a previous owner has done anything via the OBD port.

The steering on my lci car is more natural feeling than the 3.0si i had, it doesn’t really tramline & feels less “twitchy”

Carly couldn’t do that, unless the previous owner was a master coder i doubt that’s happened. I couldn’t see any reason to reverse the normal steering changes :?

It’s under warranty and a BMW approved used car so Ill get it checked.

Let us know what gives..as others said, it should weight up slightly in sports mode..re-programming the maps that determine the EPS seems inconceivable given cars age and any evidence to suggest other tinkering...
