Sport+

Please Google "Bmw Technology Guide" and go to the Z4 section. Numerous explanatory videos
Also please Google "BMW E89 Complete Vehicle". A printable pdf. I have it on my Phone
The adaptive suspension continuously adjusts the shock absorbers in milliseconds in response to road surface and driver inputs within the framework of the DSC settings.
The DTC button turns off traction control so that a small amount of wheel spin is available to enable you to get in your snow covered driveway. (otherwise the throttle would go to idle and the brakes applied) It is used in normal mode with the other functions of DSC on.
The chart on page 77 is about as clear as it gets. It is a shame that all this technology is kept so mysterious.

I looked at the guide - I had read that before - that is where I got the info about "unfeasible combinations" from. Its a good document but also a little light on facts.

The videos were fun :-) - The one about DDC explains that Sport+ gives more wheelslip but doesn't infer any change in suspension or throttle. I think I am going to have to find somewhere to test my car.

That is a fascinating document. The numerous distinctions from the E85 body were pointed out with some explanation as to why the E89 was updated. I found numerous tidbits of info I had never heard or thought of! For instance. the section on the Parking Brake included this:

"Two operating units for the brake are required by law. Besides the brake pedal, the second
operating unit in the E89 is the EMF button in the center console. Pulling the EMF
button while driving triggers dynamic emergency braking with a defined sequence via the
DSC system. This function is intended for emergencies when the driver can no longer
slow down the vehicle using the brake pedal. Other occupants can also stop the vehicle
in this way should, for example, the driver suddenly become unconscious.
During dynamic emergency braking, hydraulic braking pressure is built up at all four wheel
brakes. The DSC functions are fully active and the brake lights come on. This is an important
advantage compared to a manual parking brake.
Dynamic emergency braking takes place only for as long as the driver is pulling the EMF
button. The deceleration initiated by the DSC is increased in ramps. The EMF indicator
lamp in the instrument cluster is activated during dynamic emergency braking. In addition,
a check control message is given together with an acoustic signal in order to warn
the driver of this adverse situation."

I learn something new about my Z every day! Damn thing is full of "Easter Eggs" like so many games and other pieces of software, and they only reveal themselves when "the right conditions exist."

if i'm honest I'm fed up from time to time with all the different modes with DCT

I always drive with in sport mode with the lever in the center position , when I get to roundabouts and cruising to a stop and want to go its a lottery if the car will pick up and go or not , if your too light on the pedal it bogs , if your too heavy it can be too aggressive especially in the wet

If I approached the same situation again in sport mode but with the lever over to the left chances are it would be ok , however I dont always want to drive with the lever over to the left as it holds the revs too high for tootling about

Sport + mode is excellent when your in the mood but realistically after a short blast in this mode you cant knock around town in this setting

I like the suspension firmed up in sport + and the sharp throttle response but I dont want the DSC off , would prefer to have the option if I still want this on , just because I'm in sport + mode I don't necessarily want a greater chance of the tail sliding out....

90% of the time I love the DCT but occasionally it frustrates me and wish I had just gone manual !

Why don't you just use the paddles? :-?

The 35iS's default state should be sport/sports manual :driving:

You need to remember it's an automated manual and the changing style isn't like a normal auto. It goes up and down sequentially, did you notice that it will never skip a gear? With automatics they can quickly swap around and have a torque converter for smoother riding.

The DCT usually will never properly guess where you want it to be on a spirited drive, so I always have that in my mind when I'm driving and think the paddles are just an electronic stick.

Odd gears are on one drive shaft, even gears are on another drive shaft. As long as you're going to another gear that on the opposite shaft it can block sot just fine. However, it's only kick down that will cause a block shift.

Totally agree can be too many settings and usually run in sports mode for both and use the paddles at roundabouts and T junctions because of the slow response sometimes :headbang: you are right default should be sport + sport - otherwise fantastic car love the sounds

I did wonder how kick down managed to swap so many gears - I assumed it had some way of disconnecting the clutch completely and doing some sort of wizardry.

But, I can't stand kick-down, when I finally get this MHD installed I'll be ticking "disable kickdown"
