Splitting headlights..

Also don’t know if this helps but this is how another forum member did it. He kindly gave me some advice on how to do it but I haven’t had the time/balls yet!

Now that you’ve tried & succeeded wonder what you think of doing it this way?

Can you post the procedure mike?

I’ve currently got a spare set of OEM lights, and also a set of 2excite lights both of which I wish to split to convert to LHD(2excite) and install angel eyes and tracers :fuelfire:

Pm'd you..

Mike

Could you send to me as well when u get the chance please mike?

Guess not then?

I know I'm bumping a very old thread, but any insight on splitting the E85 / Z4 headlight lens? Did anyone else attempt this? I'm not doing for halo rings but to repair some moisture-related damage to the interior coatings.

Could the lens be re-attached with some quality black silicone?

Ok.. So the consensus is that oem lights cannot be split without cutting the lens off, therefore removing in my mind the vital locating and sealing lip yes?

Well it can be done WITHOUT cutting the lens..

Sealing lip intact..

Hi Mike, old thread I know, but I have two pair of these lights that need the lens removed so I can refurb them. I have bought one set of new lens, from Ebay, as I was going to remove the old ones with a dremel. Any chance you could send me your guide to removing them whole if you please.

P. S. I'm going to use Tiger Seal to seal them back up again, seems to be the best option after reading lots of reviews. What did you use?

Cheers.

Did you get any joy on your question? Read my post above.

Hi,

I didn't get any follow-up or guide on how to do it. For now I've put this part of the headlight restoration off to the side :( .

OK. I will be attempting to refurb two spare headlights I obtained. I'm going to remove the old lenses with a dremel tool. I bought two new lenses off of ebay. Wish me luck. 🤞

Good luck

Are your still going to use Tiger seal or go with butyl?
My only experience with Butyl is the tape for refitting door membranes and I gave up. Would not hold a seal.
