speeding tickets and the z.......

My car was 'found out' once by a roadside fixed camera (GATSO here in the UK) but due to living all around the UK, they just couldn`t get a hold of me easily. When they did catch up with me I didn`t own up to it as I was having my car worked on during the time of the capture which by this time was 6months ago. I couldn`t remember who was driving 6 months ago and when they provided photo evidence to me which I requested so that I could see who was driving, I just couldn`t see the driver  - no way was I going to admit to that.

A few weeks ago I was 'following' a brand new M3 on a motorway. About 1/4 behind me I saw flashing blue lights (it was a long straight motorway) so I pulled over and slowed down by 2mph (grin - ha ha ha). The car was in the outside lane (overtaking lane). As it caught up with me it pulled right up behind me and I thought "ohhhh fu** I`m done". With lights still flashing it then cruised up beside me. I didn`t look over at first but finally thought "I`d better acknowledge them" so looked over to the passenger in the police car. The passenger gave me the pointy finger and I thought he was telling me to pull over but with blue lights flashing it just carried on way ahead of me. Funnily enough I felt the need to speed up before thinking "no, don`t do that you fool". Anyway, I think the pointy finger was a warning to me that they had spotted me but luckily for me they either chased down the M3 .......OR had bigger problems to deal with elsewhere. I think I was also lucky in that I spotted them very quickly when they were a long way behind me (thanks to not much traffic around me)

Oh not proud to be naughty. Most of the time I drive VERY sensibly but we all probably have a little fun when we think it is safe to do so - the roads were empty for example. I drive many miles a year and have never been fined or anything yet - wooohoooo so I`m a good boy.....most of the time.....

Did a similar thing on a midnight run from Liverpool to Compton (village between Oxford & Newbury off the A34) in my old 3.8 M5.

I came off the M40 at the Oxford junction and headed down past Oxford at about 85mph when I saw another car gaining quite quickly. Less than a minute later - near Abingdon - a black Saab 9000/9-5 came flying past and I thought I'd have a bit of fun. So there's me, pedal to the floor approaching 160mph and only just gaining on him. I get to about 400m off his boot and steady the speed at 140mph to maintain the 400m gap.

We both do this speed almost all the way from Abingdon to my turn-off just before the M4, so I lift off, pull back into the inside lane and cruise back down to 85mph to take the turn-off. Then I notice the Saab is braking in the outside lane and I'm catching him up again. So there's me, braking down to 70, 60, 50, 40mph and this Saab is doing the same, but the gap between me and him is closing quite quickly as I'm not about to slam on the brakes and come to a complete stop.

I get down as far as 30mph about 400m from the junction when the Saab finally pulls level - the window winds down and out pops the wagging finger, a quick blast on two horns and the fairy lights and then he floors it once again.

All I can think is he was on the way to something urgent, or the Chief Constable was getting a lift home.

My only two tickets ever have come within 2 weeks of each other - both by mobile laser.

The first was on a dual carriageway that I'd use for 10 years and it had always been a NSL, as it was on the Monday morning I travelled down to London - came back late on Friday night and got stopped for doing 70mph in a 40 as they'd change the speed limit.

The second was pure frustration after being stuck behind a tosser in a camper van doing 40mph in a 50mph limit on the A50 near Stoke. He took 4 miles to move over into space. When he finally did, I just floored it and gave him the Nescafe salute as I glared at him, only to look ahead and see the copper pointing the laser at me - I just waved and waited for the letter. I don't wait too long for people to pull in anymore, I simply drop 1/2 cogs and fly past underneath them before they've got chance to blink.
