Speed Camera detectors

Can't believe the app side still has not matured, I mean, we have phones with GPS facility - all we are missing is the database and a map!

Yep - sounds like a plan.

Bing - can you report for duty please.

Tried holding this under the dash at the back of the footwell at Perry's today and it picked up a GPS signal just fine. Mine is now installed and working, thanks to Perry helping me to hardware it in. Actually, he did it all, I just helped take the trim off and held a sun visor as he pit it back together

Thanks Perry

any comments on how you're getting on with these? I was looking at the snooper 4zero but dont really want an unsightly device mounted on the window/dash

I really like it...

A little bit of fiddling with the settings (warning types, alert distances etc.) is required to get it setup to personal taste but it's small, unobtrusive and can be set loud enough to hear at speed with the roof down... :driving:

It prevented us (and a couple of cars behind us) falling foul of a particularly nastily-placed speed camera during the Zedfest trip and another last weekend on our way to the meet point for the Kent run.

As #320 is a garage queen, it's used more in our X3 and the only downside has been that, when I use it in the Alpina, I turn the volume up to max for top-down driving and forget to reduce it again when moving it back to the X3 - this causes my wife to sh1t herself when the first alert happens

...but, if you're looking at the snooper, are you after a laser detector? The Cheetah will alert you to known mobile hotspots but isn't a laser detector....

My logic was if i was going to get one, i may as well get laser, gps db and radar all in one device. I typically use Waze on long journeys at the mo, though.

I did the simplest install possible in the Porsche - the glovebox.

Inside there is a 12v power socket (standard), and the unit comes with a switchable plug.

The actual unit fits without any fitments exactly underneath that socket and even with the glove box closed, the sunroof open, sports exhaust and the radio on - it is clear as a bell.

On the instrument panel I have the maximum speed for the road anyway, so don't need anything visible. Besides, the voice tells me what the speed limit of the road as well so I can not see any benefit for a visible installation at all.

Nice & easy! Toying with one for the JCW, as at least in the M it feels fast!

It is GPS based so reports mobile sites. It does not have an active detection if that is what you mean.

We all have the C550 black, with the Platinum life time subscription and Perry and I got the second car kit as well.

We've been pleased with it so far, enough so that I've just ordered a second one to go in the Juke - the Platinum subscription covers you for lifetime updates on up to three devices so no extra cost for that

Yes, that is a nice touch. TVR wants one for his car as well which will go on the same subscription.

Looking forward to using it in France etc as I keep missing the little flashing blighters to the point that I need to think about changing the plate on the X5

On lots of roads now, major ones, like the A40 and A3 etc, there are average speed check cameras - so slowing down for an individual camera won't save you

Agreed - but they are less of a risk of non detection though. It is the ones that are hidden in unknown places that take a reading at a single location that I need to be aware off.

I had to travel through Croyden and the nearby hostile environments and besides having to keep your eyes open for the white vans that don't stop for anything, the sheer amount of cameras everywhere made driving a nerve wrecking experience as I had no idea where they were and you have those strange dual carriage ways there with odd limits that try to catch you out.

The Cheetah warns you of the Average Speed zones as well and keeps track of your average speed since the start of the zone...

Must remember to keep my glove box open in that case for those then

I tend to use cruise control in average speed zones anyway and just use the steering wheel controls to adjust the speed slightly up/down to match the surrounding traffic

Perry - how did you fix the magnetic mount to the dash? is it via an adhesive mount or are you using something else? Bad memories of removing the adhesive off of my dash from the Origin B2 so trying to avoid if possible. Thanks.
