If it's only an oil service, then do it yourself for the cost of the oil and a filter!

I believe NCB Autokraft in Earlswood near Solihul (used to be in Tysley) have a good reputation (from a friend with an e34 M5).
And there's also the well known Moseley Motorsport.

Or just take your car to the local garage if its just an oil change.

I used NCB Autokraft once when i had the Z3, was very pleased with the service.

Just been to BMW Sytner Leicester quoted £166 for an oil service. Sounds reasonable?

It doesn't sound bad when you compare it to what they normally charge, but for what is essentially (for them) a 10 minute job (up on ramp, covers off, sump plug out, filter out, filter in, sump plug in, refill, covers on, off ramp), you're paying retail prices for the oil & filter that they get for pennies and for them to put a stamp in the book.

Try to supply your own oil and see how much they'll charge for just the labour. If it's anywhere near an hour, then ask them to explain how they can justify an hour's labour for such a simple job.

In reality it should cost £99 as the oil will cost them about £30, the filter about £5 and £65 for 30 minutes labour (the longest it should take even their equal opportunity trainees).

cool, i think i'll try supplying my own oil, how much of what brand do i need? its a 2.5 roadster 03plate. Will i need to let them know im bringing my own oil before hand?

Hi Mirvine,

Decent oil is about £10/litre and you'll need about 6.5 litres (on a 3.0si) - so add the price of the extra gubbings and they're charging about £80 labour...

not related to the post - I just saw your location, my missus is from Appleby Magna and her Dad is a past president of the Ashby DLZ Rotary Club...

Regards,

Sojourn

just saw you had a 2.5, I think the sump holds a little less, 6.2litres? Can anyone confirm this?

Castrol EDGE 0W-30 this the stuff i need?

Just that I can get trade prices from the motor vehicle department at the college i teach.

I just checked TIS, both N52 engine B25/B30 needs 6.5 litres.

You can get 2x4 litres of Castrol Edge 5w30 for £77 from OpieOils, or a service pack which is 2x4 litres of Castrol Edge 5w30 plus an oil filter (non-OEM, so you can chuck it if you wish) for £66.

Alternatively you can use Motul BMW Specific LL04 5w-40 and save £5 on the prices above.

Don't forget that you'll have to add delivery to those prices, although sometimes there are free delivery offers and 10-20% discount offers on too!

If you do go to the dealer, and you're a BMW CC member, then you should also ask for the club discount on parts (i.e. 10% off oil & filter) when you get the bill.

I thought that 5w30 was for the warmer climates and 0w30 is better for the uk?
Thank you for all the quick responces btw guys.

TIS states if the vehicle operates frequently under -20C, then 0W-30 should be used. Otherwise, 5W-30 is okay (and cheaper).
