Space saver wheel - what size needed?

Hi

Following on from my thread about non-RFTs and whether to go for a space saver or a compressor/tyre sealant as a backup, I'm now looking to get hold of a BMW space-saver wheel. I'll still carry a compressor and can of sealant, but I can't be arsed with relying on the AA/RAC to fix me in the event of a big puncture and am willing to sacrifice the boot space required.

Question is, what size do I need to fit a 3.0i 2004 Z4?

Is 16" too small (does it clear the brakes and give a big enough diameter?) or do I need a 17"?

Also, and advice on what (portable) jacks go low enough to fit under a Z4 are much appreciated

Cheers :D

This is the one I use and it will fit all non M Z4's without need for an adapter:

powerontap, looks great! Don't you lose a lot of space by having it though?

Well yes, you do loose some space (wouldn't be able to fit golf bags for instance). Put the small jack kit underneath the spare and I can fit plenty of soft sport bags all around and on top, so It will take me on a long week-end with the girlfriend no problem. Bottom line, I always drive with total peace of mind!

I am sure I read that an E46 330i space saver would fit a Z4. Maybe someone in the know can back me up?

any 3 series E46 spare would work just need the correct tyre to give correct diameter

That's the size of tire Leatherz supplied to me with a BMW OEM compact wheel. Anybody whith an M version will also receive the proper hub adapter.

Thanks guys

I found out we need a 17" space saver for our Z4s with the above tyre size as quoted by WLH. Some of the E46s come with a 16" which I'm not sure fits, but the 17" version does.

I managed to find one online last night and bought it for £55, currently on its way to me :)

Just need a jack now, although I did find that the jack from my wife's 51-plate Vauxhall Astra fits under no probs. Can't nick hers straight away without getting her a replacement, but it's good to know there should be an abundance of Z4-friendly jacks out there...

I'm still going to carry a compressor and can of tyre weld though, once I actually get my non-RFTs.
