Craig, sorry to hear the news, like you'd I'd be fuming, it's a joke that people like this can get away with it. As has been discussed though, it sounds like there's more to it (targetted) rather than a passing spur of the moment thing.

If I was you I would invest in a home CCTV system costing £1000-£2000, don't go cheap as you want good clear night pictures.
When my car got done I came across a company who do a car CCTV system that records when you alarm the car, I'm not sure of the installation ramifications and it wasn't woth it on my previous car but I would definetly do this if my zm got done.
Good luck and I hope they don't return.

I like the idea of CCTV for the car, but I know I guy who has had his car stolen twice (well once taken, the second time attempted (on a different car) they gave up but it was badly damaged). He had CCTV, and all it allowed him to do was to replay the incident. It was no assitance to the police or catching anyone.

I'm not saying don't get it, I think CCTV, security lights etc. are all great deterants... but in the times we live in... it just doesn't seem to put people off.

We're head of neighbourhoud watch in our road... anyone any ideas if CCTV reduces your insurance premium???

Since fitting mine along with a security light with motion sensor fitted. I have watched several people scared off and whilst it probably will not put off the opportunist trying to steal a car.. if it is somebody known to you they will not want to be filmed and identified.

Really sorry for you Craig hope the police can sort these wa----s out.You can get your car repaired any place you like it's your right to choose. the insurance company will ask or suggest there repairers but you do not have to use them.I would feel like burning there house to the ground :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Fuckers ... Plain and simple.

It's amazing how much people will do to have a go and get back isn't it. It was a constant worry to start off with for me as mine is parked just off the street. It's sort of one of the reasons I don't keep it very clean that way it doesn't stand out too much.

Just a word of caution on the neighbours. Even tho he threatened, it may not have been him. It's worth saying something to the police but just be careful it's not going to make it worse so when it is fixed he then does do something to it Cos youve antagonised him :( that would suck.

As shitty as it is I would stick with the jealousy and type of car thing. Vandalism like this isn't uncommon, my mate had both his windscreens caved in with a branch outside his house for no reason. Old crappy cars too so not even a Joliet thing. Just dickheads with a chip about life.

Hope it doesn't get you down for too long.

Police werent really that interested, and with no proof as such, cant obvsly go pointing fingers....tho myself and the rest of the nbrs are sure we know who did it.

What do i do tho....
1.Do Nothing...AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN,as they think they have got away with it or i am an easy target.
2.DO NOTHING...and thats the end of it/no more hassle(which hasnt been the case obviously, given its been 5-6months since the past aggro with them,re the fence and along with the rest of my/good/nbrs,and this has now happened(when they were presented with an opportunity to do so)
3.GET REVENGE ON THEM/BEAT THEM TO A PULP (as some nbrs want to also)...but risk getting caught or in trouble with the law/police......OR it ends up in a tit-for-tat scenario??

Don't take option 3. I can tell you that you'll end up in more trouble than the likely person that damaged your car. Sickening but true.

As for the Ins.co,they have now agreed (as i wouldnt back down on were it went),its now going to a BMW Approved Bodyshop,40mins away from my house, being collected on monday.

I just hope the ins co dont try and put some of the damage down to "existing" as the car was nigh perfect before this, given its very low mileage(23k at 4.5yrs old),or tell the body shop to try and repair the roof rather than renew;or do smart repairs to some of the smaller dents/scaratches/chips that are now present on most panels/caused by a concrete block bouncing of the w/screen and down each side of the car...not to mention a new large scratch/es on the boot, and side panels!!
Fingers crossed they allow for a full respray, new roof, new w/screen and wing mirror housing, which has been cracked.

If i get any hassle i will just say ask the various friends/family and z4-forum members who have seen it in the flesh, who can verify that it wasnt in this condition prior to this.
I may sound pesimistic...but not getting good vibes thus far from ins co or even the bmw approved bodyshop(who do get a good reputation, and are also a main bmw dealer)..as to how much work will be "authorised". :headbang:

No,I Know,Stuart. thats whats just about stopped me so far from doing just that.(well, that and the wife coming home from work, pulling me back in the house as i was shouting them out as FKN COWARDS....just very very angry at that time)...but as said,i would end up getting in a load of trouble/arrested myself,so not worth it.

I hope the repair shop isn't over greedy with it being an insurance job. You don't want it CAT-D'd
Thankfully wont happen,as i mebtioned this to Admiral, and given the value of the car/have valuations of between £18,250 and £18,700 dated june this year from Autotrader/Glass' and CAP,etc based on spec, mileage, condition, etc, and it will not be written off until its over 70% of that aprox value...damage/repair looking at circa 7-8k ,so not even 50% thankfully.

Needless to say,i will be installing CCTV and some new/additional lighting,as i am an Electrician that has some experience in cctv,etc....just tend to find alot of Vandals/a-holes/neds nowadays are wise to cctv, and keep their faces covered with hats/scarves and hoodies, where we were installing 40k high end cctv for high streets that had excellent night time and day time vision/picture quality upto a very long distance away...yet half the time all u saw was a superb pic of a neds hoody top and face all but covered!! :headbang:

I'm still thinking that a multi camera version of one of those in car recorders is a good idea, motion/proximity sensing to start recording onto a decent sized memory card. Hopefully car level looking out will capture the little be-hooded feral feckers in the act. Wifi link to home network for when it's outside the house, IR version...

Most of the ingredients exist. I wonder if there would be a market for such a thing... :?

I know all too well that sick feeling you mentioned. My first Z4 was a 2003 3.0i. About 2 or 3 months after I got it someone smashed the windscreen with a brick. Broken glass all over the inside. It got sorted to like new but if I could have gotten hold of the a-hole(s) that did it I likely would be in jail today....

Sorry to hear this mate. What goes on in some peoples heads?

Helpful that... I'm not defending his neighbours but what if it wasnt them. It's all hearsay that it was and nothing to suggest it was.(witnesses etc) Option 3 will just Land the op in trouble and vindicate the neighbours. I would bet my last pound that they will have a pub full of people saying exactly where they were that night.

Mate I'm really sorry to hear about that damage but for the love of god don't do anything daft.
