Some W***ers have vandalised my z4/m!!

Just a thought ... is there any way to rig up a drive recorder so that it functions as a motion-detecting recorder for situations like this? Seems like you'd have a decent chance of getting some useful imagery no matter where your car was parked. Some of them have fore and aft cameras as well.

Install a covert cctv system covering a number of angles, this in itself should provide you with (a) Piece of mind (b) Added security to both car and house (c) Footage of anyone approaching either house/car which can be later used by yourself to justify your course of action.

Systems like this nowadays are relatively cheap and given the amount of money spent on cars on this forum a cctv system would be a drop in the ocean.

I have installed a full system covering the whole property (including 1 INSIDE the garage, in case of break in) and it's suprising what gets recorded, in my case mainly nosey neighbours and wildlife.

Just make sure your system is COVERT and installed discreetly, covering several angles,as this will give you the best results.

People are still easily identified when in 'hoodie' mode with such a system and are less likely to even cover their faces simply assuming they're not being recorded.

As far as your situation, i hope you get a good outcome, and remember it make take a while to reach the point, but revenge is a dish best served COLD!

why not have a word and ask them if they did it? unless they are SAS then you'll be able to tell if they're lieing or not.

obvious signs are lack of eye contact, trying to change the subject, going bright red in the face or going mad you asked them.

i know it's hard to do but you need to confront people like this. they won't do it again if they knew you're watching them.

I agree but could end in option 3!

Jesus, over a fence they risked getting caught, and escalating the situation but vandalising your car.

Such a mindless scumbag prob wouldnt think twice at escalating this further, so its not worth a tit for tat revenge.

Get some camera's installed... I got a wifi outdopr camera for £150 from amazon.

Watch over your property... Catch them in the act.... Then f**k them over... And show the cops the video footage.

Just hope it ends with your car and nothing more serious.

Good luck craig.

I'm still thinking that a multi camera version of one of those in car recorders is a good idea, motion/proximity sensing to start recording onto a decent sized memory card. Hopefully car level looking out will capture the little be-hooded feral feckers in the act. Wifi link to home network for when it's outside the house, IR version...
Most of the ingredients exist. I wonder if there would be a market for such a thing... :?

I manage a pharmacy for a large mutliple and we have CCTV installed. The police don't even look at it when you want them to. It's pointless. I've confronted people and either get the stuff back or get told to "get stuffed".

I also have a feeling that CCTV can be an infringement of privacy etc etc and that you can be forced to remove it by the local authorities.

Security lighting and a doberman might act as a deterrent. Failing that, I would have thought either a couple of claymores wifi linked to the motion sensor or how about the antitheft device fitted to James Bond's white Lotus Esprit Turbo? That was quite effective too....

Not making light, as I said, I've experienced this and it's just awful. Feel for you.

I reckon 1,000,000,000 watts of motion-activated lighting should cover it, along with hidden CCTV. I personally couldn't give a f**k about laws regarding civil liberties and recording without informing of the cameras - what about OUR civil liberties as the potential victims of crime?

Craig - no garage?

Thanks for all the opinions,folks...but as gas been said, while i want to get revenge,i would prob just end up getting in a tit-for-tat situation.
I am sure it only happened due to my car being parked over nearer to their house than mine...so that wont be happening again.
Will be inst cctv asap.
ALLY,NO GARAGE SADLY/just a long driveway.

Next house will tho

Just caught up on this, gutted for you, Craig. It is so difficult not to try and get revenge, but as you say, things escalate. Fustrating as hell, but IMO get the car back, go for a hoon, and get some extra security for your P&J.

I am so sorry to hear about your z I'd have to take revenge or make sure they at least get locked up for a while

Absolute gits. I just wish they could be caught in the act. A severe beating springs to mind. Ba';'#;#trds. Hope it gets sorted.

Craig, I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. I'd want to beat them to a pulp as well.

Short of that, I wanted to share with you a bad renter situation that was resolved this year in my own neighborhood. I live in a quiet middle class neighborhood, with a large rental house nearby. The owner is a slumlord, renting to the worst kind of people. He lives elsewhere on a golf course, so he couldn't care less. Last year, it was a drug dealer. This year, it was these people, on government benefits, unmarried, SEVEN kids by different fathers, and proud of it. They'd brag about not owning a car (though there was always one parked there that they used), because, they said, if they owned a car, the government would make them get a job and end their benefits. They'd throw loud parties on weeknights with 50 people in attendance, sometimes including a bonfire in the backyard, and park their cars in all the neighbors' yards. The morning after the parties, we neighbors, before going to work to pay taxes for them to live there for free, had the privilege of picking up the garbage they threw in our yards. This went on for weeks, before we as a neighborhood got together and demanded a meeting with the chief of police. Many of us went to the meeting with the chief, his captain and a few officers that patrol our area. They were, of course, familiar with the house, due to the many calls about the place over the last few years. As a group, we came up with a plan, and executed it. Anytime any of us heard noise over there, we would call other neighbors, and then all call in from our own homes to the police, to report the issue. The police wanted to be sure they were covered and couldn't be accused of unlawfully harrassing the renters, which was the point of so many neighbors calling in to the dispatch each time. Then, regardless of the hour, we would all call the landlord on his home and/or cell phone, which I obtained and shared throughout the neighborhood. Suddenly, he became interested in our problem. The police came out many times, with the Captain himself making at least 2 visits, and promising that his next visit would end with someone going to jail. After repeated visits by the police and the disgruntled landlord, they moved out. We had to endure many threats from the renters and a few inept officers that responded to our calls but failed to clear the partygoers, but within 10 months, our strategy worked. The key is to not be the only neighbor calling the police every time you see the undesirables acting up. And, you all must call EVERY time you see them drinking in the street, tearing up fences, etc. The more you let them get by with, the worse their behavior will become. At least that was my experience. They feel like they are untouchable. You have to take them down a peg, as a neighborhood. I considered moving, because it was getting so bad, but I'm I glad I stayed and fought it out. The house has been vacant since they moved out a few months ago. The landlord knows we are done with his BS.

Now, they never damaged my car, but I lived with constant worry that they would, especially after the threats. I began to park it inside my fenced-in backyard, where my very large dog roams. It's a pain, but so far so good.

I hope they get those b******s for something, whether it's for your car or the next crime they commit.

Only just caught up on this Craig, and really sorry to hear what's happened to you and your lovely car. Hope it gets resolved soon, and you have our car back looking good again mate

Car now at least going to get fixed, after several days and phonecalls with Admiral ins. ....after they had sent an "independant" assesor to look over the damage;who has approved all the work that is required/as per myself and the bmw aprvd bodyshops manager opinion.
Only catch is this "independant" assesor has said that only the outer roof cloth needs renewing, rather than the whole roof assembly.
This is despite the fact that the insulation material got wet,as some water appears to have got into the roof thru the slashed bit....needless to say i was straight onto ins.co.and stressed it will need a new roof, due to water ingress/damp insulation possibly drying out and staining the interior roof lining,as well as the roof motor issue!!

Waiting for them to come back to me :headbang:
Meanwhile,my car is still waiting to get any work done to it, a week after being vandalised :headbang:
Currently at Bmw bodyshop though, under a roof,so not getting any worse!

Dont u love ins companies, lol

Can we have pics...?

Or is that a bit rude to ask...oh well I've asked now! Hope it all gets sorted to your satisfaction asap.

No,afraid not...i did take pics Woody, for insurance reasons,if needed;but they are too painfull to look at/so not posting them.

That's fair enough, sorry for asking, but if you don't ask you don't get! But yer your right, it would be painful for us to look at which is not a good thing. What's the ETA on it being done, obviously once you've resolved the hood issue with the ins co?

Still arguing with ins co re the roof...waiting for their "independant" assesor to get back to me.
The work has now started though, and the Bodyshop manager has been great to deal with.
it will take aprox 10 working days as car getting fully stripped ready for full respray,a new pass w/mirror base, new w/screen required and 2 wheels to be repaired/painted,etc.....so i will get it back just before xmas(all going well),as roofs last thing they do. So car will hopefully be back to its former glory again :D :driving:
