Solstice > Z4

I think the solstice is a pretty roadster, although the low set bmw-like front grill looks a bit strange in my eyes.
Can't remember having seen a solstice over here though, nor have I sat in one.
The most common roadster up here is the Miata or the Audi TT.
But if I had to choose between a solstice & the others based on aesthetics, I would have chosen a solstice.

Even though I like the looks of the solstice never want to trade my M roadster for a one! :lol:
Performance is equally important as looks. And gotta have that trunk for the 2 week car vacations in Europe!

Pity about the BMW = asshole attitude many show. The same 'urban legend' is alive here as well.
It's obvious they did not meet me yet. :)
 
I think the Solstice is a good looking sports car but after a drive in one I really disliked the engine; it seemed agricultural.

Here in convertible crazy I almost never see a Solstice. I wonder what the sales figures are?
 
Sales figures have slowed tremendously. I to have test driven one and yes it in no way compares to a Z4. If I were in that market range I would definitely take the Soltice over the Miata. The Soltice does have a great unique look. The two big drawbacks of the Soltice with me were no trunk room (really no trunk room). You would literally have to roll up your clothes into tubes, there is no way you could even put a backpack (books and laptop) in the trunk, (see below) and the manual top was an inconvienence. My two cents!

Personally I think the Solstice is a bit of a weedy looking car in comparison to the Z4. Theres all other things like performance/handling etc. where I doubt it could outshine the BMW.

JBZ4, LOL on that picture! :lol: ... I like the looks of the Miata also and they are a blast to drive, saw one yesterday while riding my horse. White with black interior, looks a bit lower these days, wider and more 'business-like'; but I like the headlights on the Sol better.
They are proud of their cars and if it's what they really wanted they should be, but c'mon, comparing them to BMW's - :roll:

At least the chassis is tight, maybe next go-around they can work on their engine :idunno:
 
:poke: Trunk space or lack there of it, it was impossible to fit my racquet ball bag in the trunk even with the top up!:thumbsdown: and having to get out of the car to lower or raise the top reminded me of my old TR6 days :thumbsdown: Styling wise pretty good, but looks like a big grin different strokes for different folks :driving:
 
This is all new on me as I've never seen or heard of it our side of the pond. Much of it is reminiscent of any classic low 2 seater sports car and for that I like it.

I can't get my head around what the grill is doing right down there on the ground and would be really interested in the quality of build and finish on a $24,000 car. Hell that 1/3 the price of a reasonable UK Z and I'm not talking ///M

I have a neighbor that purchased a Solstice last spring. His wife liked it. Thought is was cute and got it for driving to and from work. They did not look at or test drive any other roadsters. After they got the car they were thinking it would be fun for weekend get away roadtrips but the size of the trunk/boot was a serious problem. Still they have managed a few overnite trips but anything other than an overnite is out of the question.

Mike, (His Name) is blown away with the prformance of my Zed. I have also driven their Solistice on about a 3 mile run with some good twisties. The car has no guts and the road feel is terrible compared to our Zed's. They have a lease on their Solstice and are marking the days until it ends and will then a look at a new or used Z-4.
 
Pontiac has ALWAYS tried to mimic BMWs (like with the sorta-kinda kidney grilles on the front ends) and IMHO the Solstice is really no exception. I don't understand how they can dis the styling of Zeds when the Solstice looks so damn much like a "melted down" version.

Now that I've vented I really do like the style of the Solstice but as others have mentioned, you get what you pay for and the perfromance differences are huge.

Oh well...to each his own. :driving:
 
I have always wanted a convertible growing up so one day I went to test drive the Pontiac G6 convertible... Wow, it didn't feel much different then what I was driving at the time- a 92 Volvo 740 Turbo. I then went to the BMW dealership test drove (then bought) my Z4 and couldn't believe how well it felt. The Pontiac felt very cheap. Never did try solstice.
 
The Solstice doesn't do a lot for me aesthetically....especially since we require a front plate and it was not really accounted for in the design. I actually prefer the Saturn Sky's looks to the Solstice.....

Yea, the front's too damn thick :| ...still, it's all a matter of personal opinion. I just think the Z's have a very nice cosmetic balance.
 
As i've said, both the Z and the Sky IMO are perfect. One of these days I might mosey to the saturn dealer an test drive one so I can compare that way.

That said. I tried to test-drive the Solstice GXP (not sure if that's what it's called. The FI'd version) since the dealer was only 2 min from my home. They wouldn't give me a test-drive unless I were to pay a $2K deposit while commenting that "they get a lot of young kids who couldn't afford the car wanting to take joy-rides". :headbang: :D

Are you kidding??!! Did you drive your Z there? 2K...oh brother :roll: ........on a side note, what a nice complement regarding your youthful look he gave you :D
