Yeah, I don't get it... they're losing a lot of sales if they're treating potential buyers like that. I remember soon after the S2000 came out, and the dealer had one on the lot, they were looking for a $10k deposit to even sit in the car. No joking.

That said. I tried to test-drive the Solstice GXP (not sure if that's what it's called. The FI'd version) since the dealer was only 2 min from my home. They wouldn't give me a test-drive unless I were to pay a $2K deposit while commenting that "they get a lot of young kids who couldn't afford the car wanting to take joy-rides".

That's nuts! They would have to pay me $10K to sit in it

Yeah I drove my M to the dealer. I guess he just didn't see it. The salesman was actually smiling and wasn't being rude at all when he was speaking to me. But then again I guess I did fit their "young punk trying to take joy rides" profile. I mean, why else would they even mention it to me. As I was leaving the dealer, a couple other salesmen were already outside circling and checking out my M.

A few other times I was asked to put down a deposit before they would let me test-drive the cars:

- Mazda RX8 when it first came out, in Vancouver, B.C.. Remember cars like S2000 and RX8 cost so much more in Canada that they're almost considered high-end cars.
- Lotus Elise when it first came out, at Park Place.
- 997 Turbo at Barrier Porsche (I don't blame them though )

I know someone who paid $7,000 over the MSRP for the S2000 when it first came out in year 2000. Of course, back then Honda was telling people that it was a special edition and the production would last only 1 year.

lol I love how people try to convince themselves that their car is better than the Z4 M.

I read some crap on a slk forum the other day, it went something like this, "the slk is a baby sl which is a supercar, and the z4 is a baby z8 which is just a cruiser. thats how i know my slk is better."

If you prefer the looks of the solstice, then more power to you, but don't tell me all cars are equal because they have 4 wheels, an engine and a chassis.

Im a hardcore motorsports fan. F1 Nascar Sprints, V8 supercars DTM anything and i mean anything with 4 wheels and an engine I watch religiously... Ive also raced with very talented drivers in my 7 year kart racing span including two who have recently had the priviledge to drive F1 cars (Robert Wickens who drove the Red Bull car and raced for team canada in the A1GP, and Daniel Morad who won a test in a BMW sauber after winning the Formula BMW champoionship)

It was a very big deal on my part to buy a car from a company with a rich motorsports background, have a motor with plenty of power, 3 pedals and six gears. They're was no way i'd purchase a car that id be ashamed to take to a track or have the slightest dislike about it. I also have a great knowledge in racing and driving, I have a great ability to feel what a car is doing, I can feel where a car is no good and cheap. I am happy to say I have a car that when Im willing to pound out some racing inspired driving, its fully willing to come along with me, and whether other people likes the way it looks or not doesnt bother me in the slightest bit.

whether its a civic or Ferrari, if you think you have a better car then my z4M coupe, then great, can't argue with anyones opinion especially when mine are so black and white hahah

Beautifully articulated. BTW I test drove a Sky turbo before entering into the Z4, no comparison. I felt obligated to at least give an american car a shot, I do live near Detroit. It was fun to drive and I liked the styling but it was no BMW thats for certain and when you put the top down it took up all the trunk space I love my car and the fact that they are uncommon made it that much more appealing.

I never drove a Solstice, but I did sit in one and being 6'1" the visibility was horrible, the windshield is way to short and the side windows too short, very bad, and you can't see out the back.
