Solid stainless steel gear knob

Ello,

I have access to a machine shop at work and wouldn't mind making my own unique one up after I pick up my Z4 Coupé on Friday. Any chance you could post up some general dimensions? Anything I particularly need to know about removing the current one? Also, could you send me a price for a 6speed one please :)

Cheers,

Phill :driving:

Sorry ,sorry ,sorry guys just been up to my ears with work since Ive got back from hols .

Bad news i am afraid the engraver can't do the gear knobs after all :x mucked me right about!
i also have tried several engravers in the area with no luck what so ever.
I just can't believe it could be that difficult.

It may be possible to get them Laser etched but ill have to email a couple of companies.

Once again sorry .

Does it really matter for the engraving? I can remember my car has 6 cogs even tho I'm an old codger! I can even remember where reverse is - Mensa material eh? :D

Mine was not engraved and it works perfectly well. All the gears are still in the same place they were before, no problem. The only issue I have is that it is so beautifully formed I find myself gently carressing it when I really should have both hands on the wheel and occasionaly I just change gear because it feels good. I know I should seek help but, engraving.............why?
Probably one of my best mods so far.
Thanks jonnyfive.

Hi All

Sorry if i have been a bit vague , the problem is that all the hassle i had with the engravers i have sort of lost the will to live on this project ,ive spent so much time on this its starting to get a bit of a chore.

I just sold the last one i had made and in order to make some more i would have to buy in material etc.

Most people pm me wanting the engraving done so iam a little reluctant to start a list just for non engraved ones and not get enough people interested then let other members down.
As you can imagine the cost of st/steel is very expensive so iam a bit reluctant to splash out and not sell them.

So for the time being iam going to put this to bed , but if i make any more i will put them up for sale with a price in the for sale section.

Thanks for the support and the kind words from members who had one.

jonny

Out of interest - how much did you charge? I'm sure there will be others here who who would want to know!
