Soft top woes :(

Well the car is now at the mercy of the dealer's. They phoned me after an hour to say they think it's probably water "in the control unit" however will take another couple of hours to get the roof off and know. The kind souls are giving me 20% off labour charges until they know for sure what the problem is.

Out of interest, has anyone had any joy getting BMW UK to foot part of the bill? I know my car is 5 years old and out of warranty, but surely the fact that they made slight changes to the motor with the facelift suggests they knew the design was substandard.

Sorry to hear that JP - fingers crossed for you - good luck. I must schedule to clean my roof drains - not done that yet!

Can confirm it's the motor - £962 in total however they have contacted BMW UK in my behalf to see if they will pay part of it. Oh joy!

Also picked up on a couple of advisories as well - surprise surprise!

 hopefully bmw will contribute - let us know!

What were the advisories?

Ive just booked mine in for brake fluid change and MOT.

Front bushes were "soft" and apparently there is a small crack in one of the exhaust brackets. Nothing that needs dealt with by the Stealers!

I pick it up tomorrow - can't wait to get the roof down again!

The roof is fixed! Official report was water damage due to a blocked drain. Total cost was £872 (was quoted £962) but they're chasing up BMW UK to see if they will contribute anything as goodwill. Will find out tomorrow.

It's great having the top down again!

Yikes, think I'll be checking my drains at the weekend! I should be OK as I checked them when I first bought the car and they were clear then, and mine's been garaged whenever it's not been driven ever since.

Gad to hear yours is sorted though JP

Well that's a turn up for the books - BMW UK are paying the full amount (parts and labour).

Result! :)

Blimey! Good work JP! Did you bat your eyelashes and smile sweetly?!

Nope - just scared them with my knowledge of the anatomy and design flaws of a Z4 roof! What a nice surprise at the end of a nightshift!
