Soft top cars .......have I missed something?

As those of us who live down sarf will know, today has been about as good a day as you will get for a bit of al fresco motoring.

So with this in mind, I dragged our son out of bed bright and early and headed for the coast. From MK down to Lulworth I saw 11 or 12 zeds (E85 & E89s), and apart from one fella in a sterling grey E85 going south on the A34 this evening the only other one with the roof down was me!

I know this subject has been done before , but really, what is the bloody point, you aren't going to get a much better day?

Coincidentally there were a fair few Z3's, SLK's, MX5's and MGF's out and about and the majority of those were also roof up, but maybe not as many as the Z4's.

Rant over

If it's dry out the roof should be down imo,

When I see a soft top up on a dry day I think to myself that's another car with a broken roof motor

i had the roof down today and it was bouncing down, doing 71mph on the motorway i did not get a single bit of rain on me - its magic

Taz, oh my... How people change :D

I was out at 7 this morning, blatting round the lanes for the hell of it, roof down all the way. I don't get why people leave their roofs up in this sort of weather either... But I am having more fun than them, so who cares :driving:

Do you know I thought Nesh was a northern expression but no one up at my office in Halifax had ever heard the word.
They didn't understand when I called them Nesh Buggers For complaining about the cold.

The count of E89's with the tin tops folded was...........zero, where does that place them? :fuelfire:

Enjoy it whilst you can - brilliant - I'd drive anything - a model T - if the roof is down - magic.

Does it call for confidence? Does it call for exuberance? Does it really matter - it's just special - get out there and enjoy it

You haven't experienced roof down driving until you've driven on a sunny, crisp, winters morning.

Ah... well there will have been a very good sensible reason for that, there is a certain time of the day, usually after the small hand passes the yard arm, before the 'discerning' E89 owner feels that it is acceptable and appropriate to lower ones hard top, it isn't the done thing to flaunt one's frivolity before luncheon.

I'm a firm believer that as long as it's not raining, the roof comes down. I was however glad it was raining after my trip to Makro on Tuesday as the boot was so rammed it wouldn't go down anyway.

When it malfunctioned on Thursday and the boot lid stayed up, I actually contemplated driving slowly back home looking like a tool and calling BMW assist. I would have stayed outside Mikes work but the new office is at the back of the Scottish Parliament and next to a less than desirable area. The kind of area where trackies and a staffie are the dress code and they don't know what work is. I'd be a sitting duck!

However when I restarted the car, instead of putting the roof up, I finished the job and kept the roof down.

I do though understand after years of ownership that sometimes you can't put the roof down for a reason and other drivers think what a 'fud'. When the roof was replaced on my E88 I had to keep it up for 4 weeks to ensure it was stretched correctly to the car. The same 4 weeks we had amazing weather and I just wanted to put a sign saying why I couldn't put my roof down :(

Getting ready to go out now. It's a bit misty and it doesn't feel too warm out there, but the roof's off. :) :driving:

Days like friday i do miss having a convertible :(

Even more so now as in the next coupe of weeks the wifes SLK is being chopped in for a qashqui :(

For the past 5 years I've travelled the 250 miles to and from the National Meet with the roof down.
Unless it's only a couple of miles local trip or it's raining then it's roof down.
Amazes me at the number of people who buy a vert and drive around with the roof up.

Top down everyday for me, unless raining or very cold and windy (don't have the heated seats in this one :( )
