SoCalZ's got to Tamale Fest in Indio Dec 5 th

Thinking about bugging out right before the afternoon drive. Definitely not spending the night.

I'm so bummed, I have to WORK this weekend :( so I can't make it!

Right in our own backyard, too

:driving: Please drive swell for me :poke:

Got hotel room, cooler is dusted off and ready to go. Checking tire pressure tomorrow and of course washing the car! Can't wait to get out there and have fun with all you great folks again! Hope the weather holds, but anything less than a hurricane does not bother me! Been there and done that already! Let's GO! See ya at Starbucks. I have big retreat here in San Diego next week with all my big bosses coming in Monday so I have been working 12 hours days all this week to catch up and handle all the extra stuff that hosting comes with. Now you can appreciate why I am so happy with outings like this one! They recharge my LIFE batteries!

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Just a few thoughts ( just so no one can say I wish I had thought of that ). LOL Robyn and I bring a cooler for the ones we are bringing home. We put ice in a gallon zip lock type bag so the tamales do not get wet. We also bring a sharpie marker and some extra bags so we can label the types of tamales, beef, pork, chicken, sweet, coconut, pineapple/raisin, strawberry, blueberry, chocolate, cheese and green chili, cheese, mango/ jalapeno, white mesa, yellow mesa etc. We also bring a backpack to put our treasures in while walking around the fest.

I found free parking and a free shuttle to get to the event, that way we well not end up parking on a dirt lot like years in the past.

See you along the route. :driving:

This is all starting to sound a bit 'Deliverance'... squeal piggy squeal....! LOL :D

You don't know me very well. Our group has fun and I pick on everyone equally. If I don't pick and tease with you there might be something else going on. I meet new people to the group and others in the group stop and join in the chat. Within two or three minutes of the older member joining the chat, a question to the newbee gets asked, " have you ( the newbee ) shook his hand yet? You do realize you ( the newbee ) are now fair game. The looks are priceless. Like what have I gotten myself into. I'm really not that bad, However, life is short and the more time I spend with a smile on my face the better. The others generally end up with a smile also. I take a bit of getting to know. I'm a bit of a card.

OT: i am loading pics to post , I will have them up tomorrow

The pics in this thread were stolen from various members attending this event.

The day started off with some of us meeting at Starbucks at 5:30 leaving at 5:45 ( one of the members started a bit earlier and came from San Diego to meet us in Orange County ( San Diego is 2 hours south of where we met )). All gased up and headed to Banning, Ca. which is 80 miles away.Arrived at 7:00 right on time.

Breakfast- Huge portions thank goodness for the small portion menu

Departed at 8:15 right on schedule. I think someone taped my mouth shut. I have a habit of taking to people and always leaving late.

The next leg of the trip took us into the mountains through Idylwild and back down into Palm Springs. Crisp clean air and a bit nippy for us SoCalZ 38 degrees. Before the drive was over we would hear from the cars the alarm that goes off at 37 degrees. Coolest temp of the day 34 degrees. With all the great views we had to stop for pics.

On these mountain roads it is sometimes tuff to find a pullout big enough for the group ( 10 Z's and 1 335 ( don't ask )) LOL

Back on the road , through town headed to Palm Springs and stopped at Lake Hemet for another pic. Arriving at the lake we were greeted by the Ranger. California State Parks sell parking passes for $35.00 which is good for a year , that allows you to park on the side of the road or use picnic areas. You can drive the roads, however, if you stop along the road you need one of these passes or it is a $100.00 dollar fine. One pass per car, the passes are good all over the State, entrance fee's still apply unless you purchased yet another pass worth $199.00 and entrance fee's sometimes will still be reqired in some cases unless you purchase a National Parks pass for $125.00 and you may still be required an entrance fee. I showed a bit of respect and chatted for a minute and was told to go ahead and get our pics. Very nice and I know where they are coming from.

Arriving at the Tamale fest, found parking and then I received some of my own medicine. We all have FRS type radios that all us to communicate while on the road. We took these radios with us to the fest as people stopping for Tamales and other treats, we knew we would get separated. We are standing waiting for the shuttle to take us from the remote lot to the fest and got separated all ready. With a group on the bus pulling away, one of the members is standing behind me in the parking lot with a radio asking for directions to the shuttles. All on the bus is watching this and would not even clue me in. I was officially had. Enough about that young whipper-snapper. LOL

We arrived at the fest a bit latter than planned due to pic being taken. Arrived at 11:00. The crowds we already there. The smell of tamales in the air and the music was a bit loud. My stomach talking to me stating it was time to consume some tasty treats.

Two blocks long and one block wide area with all kinds of treats just waiting for us. What a lunch. Tamales run from $2.50-$3.00. Robyn and I ( as did some others ) bought frozen tamales to take home to those that did not attend.

A rest spot after all the walking and standing sharing our thoughts.

Back to the hotels and check in. Leaving the fest at 3:00.

At 4:30, those of us still able to walk and not wanting a nap, drove to the other side of Palm Springs to the Festival of light parade. Arrived at 5:45.

File1458.jpg

We left the parade in time to meet up for the event dinner. Arrived at 7:30. As the hotels were very close to the restraint we had a few of these. Yum !!!!!!!!!

All in all , rumors are that everyone had a good time. We did not really plan anything for Sunday as who knew when all would wake and in what shape.

I would like to thank all that came out. It made a great event for me. Meals, driving, events and dinner with some really great people that I feel so lucky to call my friends.

Great pictures!

I've got two things to do:
1. Learn how to take better pictures.
2. Learn how to drive so I can keep up with you guys!
