SoCalz's - December 1st - 2nd Annual Desert Run

Well that was an incredible day!

We drove up to Idyllwild on Mt. San Jacinto and experienced one of the few days of snow flurries in the desert mountains. After some hot cocoa at the cafe in Idyllwild, we headed to our "undisclosed' location and enjoyed an afternoon of drag racing and slalom driving. After sunset, we enjoyed a nice meal together and then the majority of the drivers retired to a local hotel, where I have no idea what happened!

Thanks to IMZ4N for setting up another great event!

Nope. But when you stay up to 4 drinking, wake up at 8.....when your used to waking up at 1pm. well it makes for a long day.

If you're drinking all night, don't you still have quite a bit of alcohol in your system when you wake up 4 hours later?

i think they must have had so much fun that no one is up for posting? I know i have learned that teasing is the way guys treat people they like. Tease away, I can handle it. Just don't get dirty cause you'll have to splain it to me.

Well I didn't have that much.... :?
I got a buzz, but the rum played knick knack with my stomach.

The run was great. I had an awesome time. Sorry again for leaving before dinner, but if it's any consoladation I made one kick ass shrimp etoufee.

I'll post more details when I get home.

*edit*
That was the first time I saw a muddy Z4 :poke: :poke:

Well, what a day we all had ... IMZ4N will post details and pics, since I forgot my camera ,,,,

Driving up 74 above palm springs into the mist and then light snow fluries was incredible. As Dew mentioned, we had lunch in Idyllwild then went to our destination. We had a clear track of about 10,000 feet plus, what do you say Dew, about 125 feet of sand that happended to be perfect for a Z to end up in if someone accidently forgot to stop at the end of the track? Imagine going off the end at about 150 ,,,, i would of wet my pants. But the driver had an excellent recovery! and only sand and dirt on his wheels to show for it. That was an awesome piece of driving!!!! My fastest was 148, there was an M that hit 160 (MPH, not KMH!)

IMZ4N will post detail on the salom (spelled right?) run he set up That was pretty neat too seeing z4s, z3s and the M hi-tailing it between cones and come back.

And then just when you knew it could't get better, we had the best dinner with drinks. Nothing like 20 of your best friends sitting around having fun. By the way, Happy Birthday again DEWZ4!

A number of us stayed at embassey suites, and 10 of us (5 cars) had breakfast this morning (sunday). I think we sat there for about 4 hours talking.

This is exactly why I bought a Z4!

Next run? VEGAS Baby!!!! who is up for it?

We had a great time too! :D

We just finished going through the 800 pictures we took and narrowed it down to about 300. Tomorrow after work I'm going to upload them to a website so you can check them all out. There are some really good ones!

Thank you to IMZ4N and DEWSZ4 for putting on a fantastic event! Count us in on the next one!

You missed quite the trip Rosie. It was simply amazing being in that line of z4's. I loved every minute of the trip. I can't wait for the next one. I'll for a Vegas one, since that is now my backyard :P
I loved the slalom and high speed runs. I just wish I could of seen a Z go offroading. I bet it would be impressive. :poke: Impressive driving though. Did I mention I liked the slalom? I can't wait to do one of these again.
It was a cold drive up the mountain. My ears were quite numb when we pulled in at the lake. It was pretty sweet driving in the wet/snowy/cold weather as that technically was my Z4's virgin run. I say technically cause IMO there needs to be more snow for me to consider the car uhm popped  The turns we had to take though kept my blood pumping good while going up the mountain. Down was a bit slow, but it wasn't as if we could push those SUV's off the side of the mountain. The slaloms...wow, I can see myself doing that at my work parking lot just without the cones  The high speed run was fun. The best I managed was 140mph maybe a mile or so. I like to think it was 140 anyways (according to the speedo-so probably way less than that). An boy, the people. Ya'll were the best part of the run. I was nervous about meeting so many people, but ya'll did great at welcoming me in. I can't wait to drive again with ya'll.

As far as spots here in Vegas, Lake Mead would probably be the best area. Lots of twisties there though they take high speeds to make it a challenge for the Z, plus it's a state park area so it's 5 bucks a car.
Same thing with Red Rock Canyon's scenic drive-though that run is only 13 miles with a one way road not to mention bikers/hikers, plus they'd probably time us and have tickets waiting when we finish the run. That said I'll drive farther past the scenic drive and see what that road is like.
Then there is Mt. Charleston-downsides to that (IMO) it takes about 30-45 minutes to get to the mountain (going about 10mph over) and personally I don't think the mountain has quite enough twisties to warrent a 40 minute drive of folk in the Z4's.
Long story short, well work on a general timeline IMZ4N and I discussed a possible March/April time frame. In the meantime I'll do some heavier researching and try to find a good nearby place to terrorize. I don't know where everyone would like to go for beers/drinks, The Haufbrau house gets my vote though. German cuisine and beer....can't beat it.

I'll try and get in touch with the local BMW chapter here, but I'm on swings atm (evening shift) so the hours aren't conducive to really getting in touch with them.
I'll probably do another thread on this stuff as the time gets closer.

Now, where the hell did my camera to usb cable go?!

Ahh,

Back from the desert and Fly in run.

Another wonder run organized by a few and attended by many. Thanks again to Z4Bob, denise and Rob for being the ringleaders this time. A bit chilly some of the time but friendship really adds warmth.

The snow flurries added a nice touch to the Xmas festivities.

Some Desert run pics

Special grats to the Mudslide, it was an "earned" desert.

Grats to Brian for "almost" winning the Top cone in the Slalom event to Ericia.
I had to prod my wife to try the slalom and she enjoyed it the most.
I was able to whore my Z out for other to run the slalom.

Could only muster 146 from the Z before I braked for the mud zone that I never found but heard about.
Autos and shifting at that end seem to be an issues. Hard to get it to jump to 5th on the top end.

All is well and now it is bath time for the baby this weekend.

MARK and Mary

We also enjoyed the Ride to eat, eat to ride style of the day.

Shopped our way home from the outlet mall to food for dinner.

Great fun! Even with the fun drives and adventures, I have got to say the best part of the weekend was the great people and time spend chatting and telling stories. Much appreciation to those that put it together for our enjoyment. Looking forward to more pics!
btw, I drove to a pressure washer straight from the hotel. Good news, looks like a got away without a scratch! Glad I had the front and sides covered with clear bra. :D

aw, i'm sad i don't live in southern california, but maybe i can meet you all another run. Nice to see everyone had fun...and stayed safe.

Bah, today picasa isn't allowing me to link pics.

Those are my pics. I only took 7 pics, I guess it was performance anxiety :D
If anyone wants an invite to picasa/gmail let me know via PM.
Piccasa is so easy on the mac. I upload pics to the computer (super easy on a mac) I tell Iphoto I want to export to piccasa, it asks me what to name the album and public/private viewing. I click export and it starts uploading automatically.
And this icon is to save ya'll the trouble :D
:stoppimping:

Got a link to your Pics?

Not yet. I only uploaded a few. I have about 300 pictures to upload but my computer is acting up. I will definately have them up by the weekend. I have some good shots of almost everyone going through the slalom. I'll be sure to let everyone know as soon as they are up.

Ok I uploaded the pictures to an online gallery. I have to send you an email invitation in order for you to view them. Anyone interested can send me an email at [email protected] and I'll send you an invitation.
As I said before, I have lots of pictures of everyone, so send me an email if you were there!
