So who has been driving in the snow ?????

Well, tried the winter tyres today getting from West Berkshire to Bristol in heavy snow around West Berkshire and am very impressed. GOing through a snow covered country lane, partially turning to slush I found I was being held up by a 4X4 and a really slowly driven Focus estate. However I suppose there's no such thing as being overly cautious in bad conditions but did get a little impatient especially when they kept braking for no reason - a slow driver frequently braking for no reason is not a safe driver but it did give me an idea to test the braking abilities........ I built up a bit of a gap and hit the brakes but not too hard it was very good indeed.

winter tyres get a big thumgs up from me. A neighbour commented "you're not going anywhere in that" a few mins before drove off and saw many people watching me driving along with grins on their faces :)

14 miles from work to home and i made 13 miles and 1660 yards :-(

Just couldn't keep here going up the last bit of hill to our home and after 30 mins with a shovel and pratting around I finally had to dump the zed in a kind neighbours driveway. Very dented pride but fortunately that's all that's dented. The snow plough went through about ten minutes later and in the 100 yards of walking to home any sign of the plough passing had been obliterated. Stopped snowing now but temperature dropping, hit -8 last night, waiting to see what the ice is like tomorrow. So we've nothing in the way of snow like other parts of the country but enough to bring us to a halt.
BMW quoted just over £1600 for winter wheels and i think i'm going to need to start saving if we're going to get more snow this often.

That's a pity roofless - so near, yet snow far... :P Best to get it home safely and in one piece though.

I got a leaflet through the post from my dealer advertising winter tyres and wheels from £600. Interesting to hear you have been quoted £1600 - what size of wheels where those?

I think I'll just give up on using the Zed in this weather. I had thought about a 4x4 but think that a couple of Alaskan Malamutes and a sledge might be better. :D

X5 on winter tyres, been using the slush lane today very successfully. Not a single slide or slidder and overtake anything in sight

I didn't ask too much after i was given the price, i was trying to catch my breathe after nearly swallowing my tonsils. I was originally asking about winter wheels as i was planning a weeks drive to Bavaria for the beginning of December, (how crazy was I)
I am going to make some more enquiries on Monday as i need to be more mobile and it'll be a while yet before the series II landrover is on the road and mot'd.
I'm wondering if the price was just BMW looking for easy money or because the 35i has different size wheels front and back. I'm nervous about sourcing wheels elsewhere as i am concerned, perhaps pointlessly, about the geometry of the car and putting the wrong size wheels on. I'll post here once i have some more info.

I drove yesterday in the snow and shooted some pics... :D

I was having a mare yesterday, I was going across to Kent to collect a rescue dog and was caught in all the snow!

I crossed Earls Court pretty much sideways, collected the dog and trying to leave their estate up a small hill with traffic lights at the top!

First time: Up to the top, lights turned red, waited, lights green, stuck, lights red again.

Reverse to bottom

second: Up top, spin for a bit, lights red again.

Reverse back down

third: take a good run up, almost over, start to spin, lights go red, cars coming

Reverse back down

forth: up to the top, lights turn red, donut car until hit grippy bit of road, drive away. Wave at audience!

Not a big fan of all-black cars but that looks cool! I like the hood and roof slight colour/texture change.

LOL @ Rach

LOL - i had a similar situation today in my Z, curious to see how it would drive with some snow... and a very slight incline... took three attempts and i failed.. got the neighbours to help me push my car up a driveway!

roofless, get a set of 17" wheels, tyres will cost you max £400 fitted. If you want to stay original the 17" turbine wheels looks nice, they'll probably be £800 from BMW.

Just spent the last 3 hours digging through snow and ice just to get the car out of the drive, only to find there's not enough weight on the rear for the tyres to bed in, so I had to dig all the way up the road (about 20 meters); by the time I finished I couldn't be arsed to move so I gave up and went to get a cup of tea.
Shocking thing is none of the neighbours came to lend a hand after I dug out all their cars. :|

I've just dug mine of of the garage and cleared the drive and road, went and found a nice big car park for a bit of a spin.
Cars a bit dirty now.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be looking out for some tomorrow :-)

Took my winter tyres for a spin on some white stuff today - superb! Absolutely superb

Definitely recommend winter tyres. To be honest even without snow they are much better in the cold, just can't really see that on a video clip.

PawnSacrifice that looks pretty impressive. I would have expected them to break traction reversing up the slight incline at the start of the video. Did you manage to get the rears to spin at all? :?

The wheels did spin a little, a couple times, but only when I wanted it to, when I gave it some stick. Was really impressed with the traction away from junctions and braking.

Last year on the Goodyear Eagle F1s (which I thought performed well) wouldn't make it up that incline without being cleared first.

Winter tyres - money well spent

The M looks like it's crying after driving this morning. I don't blame it....
