So... Had a nice chat with a lorry this morning

But why would you be selling! :!:

Sadly it's probably going to have to go so that I can free up the money in the car for a house deposit :(

Just to add, I drove trucks for two years after leaving the Military, it is an extremely difficult and stressful occupation. I have had people with mopeds, cyclists, cars come down the left hand side unseen and only had their lives saved by the beep of a horn or LOUD shout. Dont judge them too harshly and try to understand that it is often unavoidable to drive in the wrong lane for a turning, just to get around it. On one occasion I had a Tw_t pull in front of me on the M5 Exeter junction exit, he was so close (kids in the back waving at me!!!) that i blew my horn to warn him. He then started playing 'tap the brake lights' with me. I was driving a truck weighing around 44000 kg full of steel beams, kind of sums it up really.

I realise HGV drivers don't have the easiest of jobs, especially when it comes to seeing a car as low down as a Z4. However, we were stationary at lights for a long period of time and he made no effort to signal his intention to change lanes. No indicators used at all, even when he eventually did move across. He also go out and spent 10 minutes blaming me for the entire thing and "being in the wrong lane", only changing his tune when the police arrived :P

I agree that HGVs should be given respect on the roads, and quite often there are things the "innocent" party in an accident could have done to avoid said accident. However, in this instance, I either needed to wait well behind the HGV so he could see me and had space (not going to happen when we're both at lights with no traffic in front of us) or bury the accelerator and launch with a full 340bhp off the line in the wet on a camber changing roundabout... and that's just a dick move :P

EDIT: Also, thanks guys. It hasn't really been a problem as I haven't needed the excess money and the car got fixed rapidly, but it's nice to have the thought of a trip to court off my shoulders.

Will it flag up as accident damaged on a vehicle check when you sell it? Just wondered because that will probably drop the value which the insurance claim should have considered..

I don't think so. The car was never given a Cat D marker as it was still financially viable to repair it... So I believe that means no accident damaged report. I'll still mention it to any prospective buyers though; I have plenty of pictures and all documentation relating to BMW's repairs and you can't tell anything is wrong from looking at or driving it.

You appear to have taken offence to my comments regarding truck drivers, please forgive me this was not my intention, only you know the actual facts, positioning of vehicles etc.. My apologies..

No no! I didn't take any offence to what you said, I was trying to agree with you :) I realise driving and manoeuvring a large, long and heavy vehicle from high up isn't an easy task, especially when faced with a low down sports car. I was just explaining how there wasn't much I could do and it turned into a rant...

I apologise for my comments potentially causing offence

At least it was repairable and you were all OK so I consider that a win in a car crash involving a lorry and a sports car. A reflection of how tough cars are these days I guess.

Do you know how much it actually cost to repair?

Yep, getting side swiped by a HGV could have been an awful lot worse, especially considering how close I got to the road furniture.

I got an itemised bill from BMW for my own records. Total cost came to £7230.67. Not cheap!
