SmartTop finally ordered... Now Installed.. Dangerously!

Andy, do you think it would be better getting 19's or am I losing the effect..is there a way round to get the 20's to fit and what mods need to be done in order to not get them to rub...

I think the 20's on Andy's car look fantastic and I'd go with them, not sure about the ride comfort though :?

you wont regret getting a smart top one of the best options I like is auto folding the door mirrors it's a quick way to see that I haven't unlocked it putting the fob in my pocket

I've got folding mirrors, but not automatic when I lock the car!! :|

If the module is fitted, does the disable motion sensor ie Double press lock button still work ok?

You can set the mirrors to fold on locking or to fold when double click on locking so that you can decide whether you want them folded or not. I chose the double clicking, the main reason was the weather. I was unsure if all the snow and ice may put extra strain on the motors and I don't need them folded on my own drive, plenty of room. Away from home I can then decide whether to fold them or not from the key fob. They then fold back out on opening.

I quite often take my car on a ferry and am a liitle concerned that the standard double click that normaly disables the tilt/motion sensor will do something else!

As long as I can still switch the motion sensor off somehow, then Im not bothered. :D

To be honest I don't know anything about the motion sensor but maybe someone else does.

Only really useful if you want to disable to alarm while perhaps you have a dog in there etc... which isn't going to happen for me with white leather!!

Its the tilt sensor feature. I think i've misled you - The book says press twice to disable. I know the standard system works !

hi
Personally i think 19" wheels r to small on the E89, many people will disagree with me but there to small fact. lol.
20" wheels r not the problem, its the width, i went for 10" rear et35. i needed to mod the rear inner gard, its a very simple mod but i was not prepared to do this.
here are my wheels

They are for sale if you are intrested
Cheers.

Double click won't do anything, it's all done with single hold clicks rather than multiple clicks

So its more than likely that the disarm the tilt/motion sensors will still work then.

I suppose if the worst was to happen and it didnt, I could use the key like they did in the olden days!

Andy, how much do you want for them? Does it include tyres? And what's the modification that's needed, what does it involve?

The wheels and tyres are brand new
Drove it out of my drive way and back in, that's it.
Cost me £2800 plus delivery
£1800 is as low as I can go
Mod required , there is a hard plastic bit in the inner rear gard, it needs cut away .

BmwZ has these extract wheels and tyres on and this is the mod he made to stop the rubbing,
Also remember I have it lowered on H&R springs , very low, if you do not lower it you do not need to make this mod.

Here is the price of the wheels alone

Cheers

The issue then I guess is that if it does rub and you need to cut the liner, it exposes the car bodywork to road debris so you'd need to seal the liner somehow...

Not sure about this
Any one who has made the mod has not mentioned this
Here is BmwZ car

And he is one fussy guy, he has been working on z4's for years , prob built the nicest z4 e85 I've ever seen.
Cheers.
