SmartTop finally ordered... Now Installed.. Dangerously!

I have one for sale if someone wants it £150, but you'd need to download instructions etc. Never got round to using it as I didn't have a pc to programme it
Just in case this comment puts people off the SmartTop - it is easy to programme your chosen settings via the indicator stalk... you just need to read (and follow) the instructions. It's also easy to temporarily disable the system if you're having the car serviced - it becomes invisible to any diagnostics.

@ronk. do you have one installed in an E89? Recommended?

E89 3.0 (Dec 2010)

Without any shadow or doubt !
Not for any vanity or show off reasons either.

I've got a dodgy leg problem and it's much easier to get out of the car in my garage with the lid down - I don't like leaving it down. Without the Smarttop it was difficult to squeeze back in and press the buttons / remove the key !

The smarttop cures that problem.

The ability to close the top at low speed is also a plus on those days when it starts to drizzle and the traffic lights turn red than just as you almost get the lid back on , they go green again!

Go for one if you can.

Its bloody pouring down up north. good luck! Just don't do what I did and have your keys in your pocket while you're leaning in.

Mines removed at the moment and I'm 50/50 on selling or keeping as I'm a bit short on cash this month. Bloody locked in ISA's.

sunny here at the moment, plus all my neighbours are out so i've just parked sideways under the car port for easy access :D

You'll have to rearrange the wiring to get the plug to sit somewhere as there's not much lead on that. Then run the control box to behind the boot trim/wing. I don't have PDC so I have a nice space there to tuck all mine in.

i've had to give up and come inside and dial into a meeting. thought i would take it all out and try again another day but it seems the smart bracket that plugs into the car is broken and can't be removed :headbang: not quite sure what to do now, hopefully taking it in next week to have bmw change the rear light on that side so i need to get it out!

Are you certain the bracket that secures the plug into the roof module is fully pushed into place? It could just need some gentle encouragement. The type of clip/bracket ensures that when pushed fully down the plug is pulled into the socket making a better connection. It should be possible to just pop the top of the clip away from the notch in the plug to allow you to swing it back up and the plug will come out. Get some extra light in there to see what you're doing and you'll see the notch that the clip must be prised (gently) over before it can swing up. Its fairly straight forward provided you take your time and be gentle.. oh and don't have keys in your pocket to make the car try and crush you.

smarttop?

A device that adds features to the convertible top. One touch use, allows use up to 25mph and a few more bits...
