SLK 250 CDI

Hi

My Zed is being repaired under insurance and I been given the SLK 250 CDI 2014 with only 8k on the clock.

the SLK is an amazing piece of work but I am missing my Z4, The SLK is definitely more of a head turner as it is new but tbh you don't feel like like you are driving it, it drives itself basically (YOU JUST ACCELERATE AND AGAIN ITS AN AUTOMATIC) and there is too much comfort for a sports car, it is more like if you driving an E-class.

The handling is amazing with the Michelin non-rft - but again I still got the RFT on my zed - so can't really compare.

All in all and in my humble opinion i'd say that the SLK and the Z4 are completely 2 different cars and that its not fair to compare them, it all depends on what you want from a car and on your preferences.

In the meantime I just can't wait to have my Zed back :)

Not really comparing apples with apples. It pairs with the current (still old) E89 Z4 not the 10+ old E85. They are really just a 'rented' GT cruiser for burdz to look good in their over-sized sunglasses. Noticeably quicker than your 2ltr though!

My mate has had an SLK300 AMG for all of 3 weeks, (came from an E46 330) and he's already looking for a replacement!

I sold my 2007 Z4 2 years ago and have just replaced with an SLK 320 (2003). What a car, but completely agree that it is chalk and cheese against the zed.
It's a GT style car and feels like you are driving something much bigger.

The latest SLKs & for that matter most of the Mb range just look so numb
I was alongside a almost new SL on saturday , now that is a ghastly looking vehicle , slab sided & blunt front :o how any designer thinks that looks good for a flagship sports is beyond me
.Both the previous SLs & SLKs look better imo

I agree the cars are very different and I think they appeal to different people. Women def prefer the SLK as women I have dated since have said they never liked the Z4 E89. My SLK is a 350 AMG, and it looks good in my opinion

The wife has (until tomorrow) a slk 200... In red with the amg pack and imo i think it looks much nicer than my old Z4.

Doesnt drive for s**t though... Slow and cumbersome and not at all sporty.

But airscard and electrically tinting panaoramic roof are nice touches.

Sadly wednesday she picks up her birthday present... And Nissan Qashqai!! But least it has a birdeye camera which her merc doesnt have!!

I drive a 2014 SLK 350 AMG for a few weeks last year. It was a very similar drive to my girlfriend's E Class Coupe but with more torque. The folding panoramic roof was nicer than the rag top on my S2000, but beyond that I wasn't remotely excited by it.

Is the slk less noisy with the lid on?

when the roof is up you can't hear anything :) ...... Its a BENZ ;)

I have to say that it has a surprising engine noise for a diesel !!!!! for a brief moment when you floor it it sounds like a V8 or V12 even (to certain extent ) !!!

Probably one for Nick to answer really as I would expect a tin top to have considerably less noise than a rag top. My E88 wasn't noisy considering but like night and day when in the E89.

As for sounding like a V8 or V12, I think you need your ears cleaned. I've never heard Nick say that about his and he has a full fat petrol version, not an oil burner. In fact it's not something I've ever heard said about a diesel SLK full stop.

Might be OK if you like a tractor sound-track with no top end, but otherwise maybe a straight 6 petrol-powered BM is better...?

Certainly is from my POV!!

My V6 sounds better than my 35i. The SLK is NA and the E89 is turbocharged. And yes it sounds more like my 650 used to sound.

Unfortunately the torque makes the rear wheels spin too much when pulling away.

It's a good car but not as much as a sports car as the E89

We prob not talking about the same car !!! STARK will have a good answer I think !!!

Firstly Ben forgive me for playing with your post. I clearly have too much time on my hands tonight.

This description sounds like the purgatory to my old fashioned ears. It's everything that is wrong with so many so called sports cars these days.
