Slight Issue with a Cat (4 legged type)

Only a question for cat owners who own soft tops - Do your cats sit on your soft tops /cars at home?

If not - how do you stop them?

yes i do and the little fucker has just started sitting ontop of my car, kind of glad its not the foxes we get regularly in the garden! at least when he's out there the birds don't sit on it. there are about 8 cats that live around our place and mostly they keep off.

tin foil is one the other way we keep him off stuff in the house is with double sided tape. cats go apeshit when it stick to their paws. ive also used one of those glade motion sensor things which worked a bit to keep him off the table.

unfortunately i dont think there is much to be done. cats are technically not property like dogs as they are classed as a roaming animal. there are plenty of feral ones about here. i think you just have to encourage them to move on by making it not so comfy, its the springy warm nature they like

comfy looking ... little sod.... i was helping my mate with his car when he just jumped up there and settled down

Thanks for the info - and yes better a cat than a fox!

Don't Gamekeepers use some smelly repellent for pheasant pens? (Renadine ? Don't quote the spelling) That might be worth a try around the edge of the garden? I think its non toxic - It just stinks!

Here was the thread i had - which had numerous entertaining pics!

Citronella oil works well temporarily - and smells nice - added to the AG roof protector
Ultra sonics have limited benefit.
Water pistol when i see them - works - but short lived and had to catch them
Scatmatt - keeps them off! but sends them elsewhere on the car :headbang:

Cats are classed as property which is why it is classed as animal cruelty if you shoot them. Even ferel cats are classed as between owners and you can't shoot them like you can with foxes.
There is two options in my eye. Don't get caught shooting them or get photos, send the bill and persue through the small claims court for any damages if they are unwilling to pay.

lol its my cat on the roof. bloody thing but at least its down to me! lol the garden is a shared thing and seriously there are loads of them that come through (at least 5 that live in the block) im just surprised that its not been sooner and only with mine as far as i can tell. i wouldn't be able to use anything that scares them off but tbh its not a real problem for me, very annoying and i usually use the hose on him when he's done it before so you don't often see him jump up on cars.

he did have a spate of sitting on a previous car in my old house but it stopped pretty quick. its just a case of making them uncomfortable so they move on.

the tone thing on the matt would be interesting as they would get to associate the tone with a shock, when i was trying to keep zappy off the table i read a few things that basically conditioned the cats to a tone warning using air blasts that when the canister had run out worked with the tone on its own.

there was a guy who got sent to prison near where i lived a few years back. he was caught feeding poisoned fish to local cats (fish fingers soaked in antifreeze i think or something along those lines) . i don't think it was long but he couldn't move back into the area after due to the animosity of the local residents which included setting fire to his car. strangely no one saw/heard a thing.

I have two cats - a girl black one called Familiar and a boy grey one called Graeme :) [get it?]- Familiar likes to sit on the roof, but only when I'm out their 'playing' in the car, when I shout at her to get off, she moans, but leaves. The car is parked on the street, generally within view, and I'm yet to spot her - or any other cat - on the roof when I'm not there. What happens at night when I'm tucked up in in bed is anyone's guess, but I've not found many hairs.

Guess I'm luckier than others
