SkyeFall Run 2014 - 30th & 31st August - Updated 29/07/14

For the Garmin Navs, it looks like the route import process differs between models - this is from the Garmin support website

How do I access routes transferred from the computer on a nuvi, LIVE, dezl, Camper/RV, or zumo device?

Routes can be created on the computer in programs such as BaseCamp or MapQuest, and then transferred to certain models of nuvi, LIVE, dezl, Camper/RV, or zumo devices. Some devices require you to manually import the routes from a My Data or User Data folder. Others will automatically import the routes into Trip Planner on the device.

Once the created routes have been transferred, you may access them on the device. On certain models, the routes must be imported before they can be accessed.

To access transferred routes on a nuvi 465, 500, 700, 705, 800, 805, 1400, 1690, 5000 series or a zumo 220, 400, 500, 600, or 605 series:

Touch Tools
Touch My Data or User Data
Touch Import Route(s) from File
Select the routes you would like to import
Touch Import
The device will now import the selected routes. The routes that were imported can be found in the Routes option under "Where To?".

To access transferred routes on a nuvi 295W:

Touch Where To?
Touch Routes
Touch the menu button (three horizontal lines)
Touch Import Routes
The device will now import the selected routes. The routes that were imported can be found in the Routes option under "Where To?"

To access a transferred route in a nuvi 55, 56, 65, 66, 2400, 2405, 2407, 2408, 2505, 2507, 2508, 2707, 2708, 3400, 3500, 3507, 3508, 3700 series, dezl 560, dezl 760, Camper/RV 760, zumo 350, and 390 device:

Touch Apps or Tools
Touch Trip Planner
Allow time for the device to automatically import the trip/route
The import will automatically begin, but no message will appear on the device indicating that the import is happening and may take several minutes to import the trips. Once the import is complete, all transferred routes will be displayed under a category called Unscheduled Trips in the Trip Planner.1 Until the trip(s) show up in Trip Planner, please do not turn off the device or connect it to a computer.

To access a transferred route in a zumo 590:

When the device is first powered on, the message 'New routes found. Import to trip planner?' will appear, Touch Yes
Select each route you want to import
Touch Import
Go back to the Main Menu
Touch Apps
Touch Trip Planner
The imported routes are now listed under Unscheduled Trips.

*Please note: When routes are imported to your Garmin device, the route may change due to navigation settings within your device.

1The nuvi 55, 56, 65, 66, 2407, 2408, 2507, 2508, 2707, 2708, 3507, 3508 series, Camper/RV 760, zumo 350, 390 and 590 devices can send routes created using Trip Planner to BaseCamp. The remaining devices that create routes using Trip Planner cannot send routes to BaseCamp. However, devices that utilize Trip Planner will be able to receive routes from BaseCamp, with the exception of the nuvi 2200 and 2300 series devices.

Damnit - mine is a nuvi 200, pretty much the only one not on the list

You might be able to import the gpx files using the Garmin POI loader http://www.garmin.com/us/maps/poiloader

Ah, it looks like yours doesn't support this
Somebody on the Garmin forums said:
Sorry, the Nuvi 200 is one of those units that does not support routes. It allows only a single waypoint between your starting point and destination. That's one of the features we get for buying the low end device.
If only you weren't such a cheapskate... :poke:

In my defence, it was bought for mrs b when she had a car without nav - current position to required destination plus a pre-programmed home button were pretty much the requirements

Might see if I can tap up Jem for a loan of his TomTom...

If the replacement battery breathes new life into mine, and I can get the routes on it, you can use it - I'll just follow you 8)

I've just sent everyone updated Garmin and TomTom files - I've been able to test the TomTom files and they work

If you don't receive the email, please shout

To get them working
- connect TomTom to PC
- TomTom shows up as a removable drive
- copy the itn files to the 'itn' folder in the root of the TomTom drive
- disconnect TomTom from the PC
- power up TomTom
- select 'Itinerary planning'
- select 'Load Itinerary' (may have to press 'Options' button first)
- pick the relevant Itinerary file
- it should then list all the waypoints
- press 'Done'

I'm just pleased to have the easy functioning, ever helpful, totally supportive and understanding satnav which comes with my Zed - had it about 20 years and the battery's holding up well. . . . .

It's called the 'Steph Steph' as in "Steph, Steph, which way do I go here!?"

:driving:

Mine is male and therefore cannot multi-task - he takes great action photos instead :D

BTW, should have said - heard from Craig, he's mad busy at the moment but has the route and timings and is intending to be with us... Might just be a bit last minute, but that makes 9 cars which feels like a good number 8)

Still no joy with my Garmin Nuvi 2240 :headbang:

Have installed to internal memory ok on nuvi 2595 (2505 series) but can't get sd card version loaded - but luckily had spare internal space.

Cheers Perry - Bing I have a spare 2595 that I'll try and duplicate and bring along as planned.

Perhaps Tony can verify these steps but, if you're using the Garmin Basecamp software, this info is from the Garmin Knowledgebase

Question: How do I import GPX files from my computer into BaseCamp?
Answer: A saved .GPX file can be imported into BaseCamp from your computer.

To Import:
- Click File from the File menu
- Click Import
- Browse to the GPX file location from the Import File window
- Click open for Windows or import for MAC
- The information that was contained in the GPX file will now be displayed under Library in the My Collection and Recently Imported from folders.

Don't know if it's relevant but I found a note saying that, in 2012, Garmin changed the way favorites (waypoints) are handled on the Nuvi. They now do not display favorites by default, but you can enable the "places along the road" layer and it will display blue "signposts" with a heart in them for favorites

srhutch posted a link to this software which is supposed to convert between formats so you could always try this with the TomTom itn files
