SkyeFall Run 2014 - 30th & 31st August - Updated 29/07/14

A z4-forum run to Skye, without me. Something feels very strange

Guid effort on the organizing Bing, especially glad to see you've all booked the ferry as "some muppet" didn't bother doing that in the past which required an about turn and alternative (land based) route to Skye . That's some amount of mileage you've got planned, just beware that speeds will be lower than you might be used to as the roads are pretty low speed at times.

If you're early for the ferry, take the B8008 turn-off to Arisaig about 10 miles before Mallaig - it follows the coast before rejoining the main road and has cracking scenery like THIS.

Oh, and Friday night? These are 10mins drive from where you're staying:

I'll try and poke my head into the pub on the Friday night (or meet you at the Kelpies), or come along to see you all off on the Sat morning :driving:

a11y, thanks - hopefully the mileage won't be too challenging, might just need to not do the north part of Skye... And that wee loop of the main road to Mallaig is already planned in, courtesy of Jack's advice. Looks a cracking little diversion

Oh, and great pics - that shot of the road through the mountains on Skye literally gave me goose-bumps

New battery for the TomTom arrived today, fitted it and it now turns on and works properly :)

As long as the new battery holds a charge, I'll bring it along

Amazing how quickly this thread has disappeared down the rankings when Bing goes on holiday isn't it!!

Unfortunately some of the photolinks don't seem to be still working, but here's the 2011 thread for you all:

On holiday, but still on here lol :D

Can't wait though - the ONLY thing I am missing is my car... Having serious withdrawal symptoms

Nice one Guiseley - looking through those photos has got me really looking forward to the run too.

Hope you're having a great holiday Bing!

We're busy planning our next two North East runs and will be out on a recce tomorrow checking roads we've been told about out of Hawick - the forecast is good.

We shall see. . . .

:driving:

Me too, Jungle Juice

Their bite relief spray is really good too. Also on malaria tablets having been to Sabah, belt and braces

Practice road trip in a Kia to the other side of Malaysia tomorrow - no roof down action, but should be a great drive nonetheless :driving:

Getting close now... 8)

Just trying to work out if we should be packing sun-tan lotion or buying new waterproofs - does anyone know, on average, how accurate the 10-day weather forecasts are likely to be for the area?

Not seen a forecast yet, will check when we get back - have you found something ?

Currently in KLIA about to board our flight home, a bit :( :)

... But can't wait for this run :driving:

Just look at the bright side, you can fly without that Icelandic volcano interfering ...

It's always mixed emotions coming home from a holiday - I mostly hate it, but look forward to my own bed again....

Weather forecasts are a mixed bag at the moment and seem to change from one visit to the next - some say rain, some say clouds, some say sun... but it's Scotland so they could all be correct... :P

I'm thinking if the weathers good I will be happy - but there will be loads of midges
If it's raining there will be less midges so I'll still be happy

And I've worked my butt off for the last couple of weeks so I deserve a break :D
