Single Garage

Yes, mines in a single garage, to protect the doors when opening I've fitted PVC plumbers pipe down the sides of the garage and then put heavy Polyethylene pipe insulation on them. So when the doors open you only have contact with the foam.

Mines very narrow at 2250mm. Door opening of 2100mm. Bit of a squeeze getting in and out! Foam pad stuck to wall for door protection.

Yikes that is a tight space. My slightly portly belly would need a workout before attempting that entry (or exit) lol

If helps my single garage is only 8ft wide and I get my M Coupe in no problem -

Wow, a 13 year thread resurrection! Got to be a record?

I have a huge double garage but it's still not big enough. And why builders put two tiny 7' wide doors on a double garage is beyond me.
Actually I do know....it's because with a double-width door they would need expensive lintels across the opening, so it's cheaper to do two diddy ones and have a pillar between.

I feel your pain. The only time I had a double garage it was set at 90 degrees to the drive and had two diddy doors, so unsurprisingly never had a car inside but it was handy for my motorbikes!

It really is time the size of a standard garage got increased to reflect the monster size of modern cars, and fitting single doors on double garages should be made illegal.

Modern building regs make no mention of sizes for garages. Builders can make garages whatever size they like, as the consensus is that modern cars don't need to be garaged, so garaging is intended for storage.

Or typically gets converted to a long thin room. :(
