I can't see me getting a "standard" 911, I would want something special, big problem though, pretty much anything I have lusted after has moved farrrr away from my likely future budget...GT3s are astronomical, and GT2s biblically expensive. Shame really.

Im probably one of the biggest advocates of the Z4MC but the 911 is in a completely different league in all areas. If you enjoy the Z4M the 911 on full hoon mode will blow you away.

Its worth trying one. They do take a little getting used to but when you get them its easy to see why they have such a huge following.

I think i definitely need to try one (Actually back to back a few different porsches) to form a rounded opinion, i feel like the added size with not much more power to show for it is somewhat off-putting, i really wouldn't expect it to blow me away. I think this is perhaps a common reason why people are interested in the GTS/GT3/RS variants, for that extra grunt and focus.

Don't get me wrong, i don't doubt a porsche's capabilities but 70-100k seems like a lot (especially as std interiors are parp, you really need to spec up the interior to make it feel worth the asking price), when you can probably spend 100-120 and land a GTS/GT3.

Jimmy i used to think - then i watched this very expensive EVO video Carrera vs M4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scXXhmknySA

GT cars have ti an extent become moveable ISAs with very few making it on to the roads and not so many tracked these days due to the rising value.

Well you have to come up with your own conclusions. But "base cars" nowadays are always undesirable but it doesn't mean they aren't good and spec sheets don't tell all. Probs the reason you still have your Z4M on paper and reviews were all judged harshly at launch.

On the interior side of things Tims is a 2007 and based on a 2004 design so 12 years old design wise. But it is clad with leather everywhere feels a very nice place to be and doing thousands of miles is a joy the Bose system is amazing seats incredibly comfy but supportive the only thing that does tend to show its age is the GUI of the nav but so does every car from this time period. The newer cars are exceptional especially 991 upward those interiors are super lux comfort.

To put it in perspective the 991 base Carrera is quicker and much more frugal than a 997.2 Carrera gts renowned to be one of the very best Carreras ever made... Impressive and the 991 Carrera is 0-60 in 4.6 180mph. Carrera S manuals are 4.2 or sub 4 with PDK.

Like I said the 911 and Z4M have similar stats on paper but the 911 just feels special and on the track as Rob has posted in the vid... They are impressive.

and dat ass.... Love being behind a 911 if I can keep up in my GFs 1.5d clio

Hah - nothing quite like following your own Z4MC too, worth getting someone to drive it and see how awesome it looks on the road (a bit like why you always drive in driving games from the zoomed out view!)

The difference between a base Carrera and a GTS (991) is night and day in the interior, it's funny how the porsche cabin transforms with the extra leather + alcantara bits.

Tempted to hire a 997.2 GTS up in scotland for a long weekend :)

And then there is also "leather slat" man

BMW - a company that makes family cars and the odd sports car.

Porsche - a company that makes sports cars and the odd family car.

I love my Zed for what it is but come on guys!

Just to throw my totally skewed tuppence worth into the pot....

I was fortunate enough to be thrown the keys to 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 by the owner at a Goodwood trackday with the words 'come on then let's see what you can do'. Dear Lord what an absolutely phenomenal car. They say don't meet your heroes - it's true - It was better than I could have possibly hoped for, and now I want one ridiculously badly!! 156mph down the Lavant straight was quite a feeling, as was turning into fordwater at 130mph....

Appreciate my zed is not the full M, but even in the current spec it just felt so imprecise by comparison. Once you're dialled into how to drive a 911 fast it's utterly intuitive and hugely rewarding, it gives you huge confidence to start hunting for time into braking zone's and on corner exit....

Anyway ill stop my lovestruck rant; summary is the Porsche is a wonderful thing to drive fast in a way that the zed can't manage. The Ms even for the price point are a cracking car and I adore them but for me a 911 with the right spec suspension and engine would be the go-to car without a shadow of a doubt...

Been into Europe on a little road trip for my birthday

Cleaned it twice a day every day

Forgot I took this, love night time shots.. shame about the lens flare though

The 987 is a very capable car. It has a raw feel, great feedback to the driver and has a very nice composed ride for a sports roadster. Down side It as some 'quirkiness' in the roof department and electrics.
The precision handling and ride on the 981 has to be experienced. Its a a lot less raw feeling though. That flat in its final format with PSE is just epic.
The equipment level, fit and finish has also taken a massive step forward............. no quirkiness detected so far
