Should I sell my runabout?

My company is moving to new offices which means I will be travelling by train to work rather than driving. I purchased a cheap runabout (Ford Puma) to drive to work to save me putting too many miles on my Z but now that I won't be driving to work should i sell the runabout?

Possitives of selling
- Will not need to spend about £700-£900 a year to keep second car on the road
- Will get to drive the Z every day

Negatives of selling
- Will have to park the Z in train station car park and risk dings and scrapes :o
- Will need to think about winter tyres for the Z which could be expensive as I currently have winter tyres for the Puma
- Will need to use the Z for shopping and again risk parking in public car parks

Any advice would be welcome but it is starting to look like an unnessesary extravegance having two cars now.

For all the above reasons I would keep it. I loved my run around, could park it anywhere and didn't care what happened to it. Now I have a brand new 1 series so we use the wife's car for Tesco's etc as I don't want to get that scraped, and it's not even mine.

Keep it, a Z is no good in a car par, certainly not at a station where all the metal bits will get burned into the paint - let alone all the dents you will get.

I really hate the idea of coming back to a car park and finding a dent or scrape and it would be exposed 5 days a week at the train car park which makes me shiver just thinking about it :o

But £900 a year to keep the Puma on the road is alot of money when looking at it logically and any scrapes could be paid for from what i have saved on the Puma. But I guess it's more than just the cost of repairs it's that horrible feeling that some muppet has damaged my pride and joy.

Parking your Z outside will also add to the costs anyway, seized brake callipers, rubbers decaying, wipers freezing and decomposing etc etc.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I will need to give this some more thought. Actually i need to get the Puma MOT'd soon so I guess I will see how that goes and how expensive ity is.

I'm in very similar circumstances. Just changed jobs and have gone from 35k miles a year to travelling into work by train. Hence I've just got a Z4MC, now I don't need something that does 50mpg.

Once I sell my old daily driver, a 2 year old 320d, I will be buying a £1500 runaround (mk4 Golf probably) to leave in the station carpark. Can't imagine leaving my immaculate zed for 12 hours a day in the station carpark in winter. I reckon that by keeping the zed immaculate I'll be slowing it's depreciation down, hopefully offsetting the cost of the Golf's insurance etc.

How much fuel will you save using the Puma?

My fuel saving taxed and insured my run around so additional costs were actually very minimal.

Another vote for keep. My shed just endured a trip to Knowsley safari park and a monkey weed on it and I now have a chewed aerial! Good times!!

Fuel saving won't be much now as it's only 25 miles per week to the train station and Tescos is just 3 miles away. My z is garaged so will be fully protected from the ravages of winter and snow so Maybe it is best to keep the Puma as it will mean the Z will be in better condition in a year's time. Over the last year garaging my Z has really helped make it feel as new as it was a year ago

Keep the puma. Even after the expense of buying winter tyres, the z4 will still be crap in the snow. Plus the risk of people slamming their doors in to your car isn't worth it. I had to abandon my z4 twice in the snow last year on my way home from work. I'm working from home this winter!!

Just bought my z4 its my pride and joy but am going to use it every day as I already have a weekend toy tucked up in my lock-up. I'd say sell the puma and just be as careful as possible where you park the z4. Fingers crossed I have never had a trolley dent or damage on any car I have owned
