Should I purchase?

Hi all, how is everyone?

So I am in a bit of a pickle. I am looking to purchase an z4 coupe, but dont know if the below is worth it or not. I appreciate you will have a much better understanding of the market with your experience as well.

So the car is:
2008 reg (08)
58000 miles
Sport (not SE)
Parking Sensors and Cruise (they were a must)
Black full leather
Service history is decent, not BMW, but last service was in 2015, major with halfords
MOT for 13 months (no advisories)
Few scratches here and there. Alloys have a bit of scruff

But the seller is the 6th owner
I would be the 7th
When I sell it, they will be the 8th

Price is £11500

Should I be concerned about the owners?
Is the price good? If not what should I be looking at?
I plan to use it for 2 years and sell once I get married etc, so I want to minimise the depreciation as much as possible.

Your advice and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks all

It's been said before, that the Zeds do tend to "accumulate" owners. Reasoning behind it is that for many, it's a fair weather car that they buy with good intentions, and then find themselves not using it, so sell it. A few rinse and repeats later and you end up with all those owners. Another reason is that a lot of owners "get into" a lower spec/engine size of Zed, love it, so then trade up, again this increases prev owner numbers.

I think mine has 5 prev, but that didn't worry me. Condition and history is what's important. That number of owners wouldn't put me off, as long as the condition, history and price were all right.

Post a link to the ad, so we can all see the car, we do love our pics on here, which is why we have this "smiley"...

:worthless:

:D

Yup, number of owners not that important. Buy on condition and service history. If those are good then that seems a fair price. If you post up the service history and some pictures or a link to the advert, then you will get better informed feedback. :)

Thanks for the responses

If it's all good then I'd say that was a good price. Number of owners are only a concern if there's a lot in a short period of time (e.g. 4 in a year), as it can indicate some intermittent niggles that the owner can't live with.

If that's the full service history, then I'd also be slightly concerned that it didn't seem to have a service between 2010 and 2014, and hasn't had a brake fluid service since 2010. Not what I'd call 'looked after'.

However, the earlier lack of care does not mean the current/recent owners have not looked after it, so you'd have to ask the current owner about that.

I think you'd probably have to factor in a split & wheel refurb, as they're bubbling.

How much is the split & wheel refurb approx?

I called halfords yesterday and they confirmed it was a major service in 2015 which includes "Replace brake fluid and bleed system."

The current owner had owned it from 2015-2017
The previous from 2013-2015

This is according to the V5C

Im assuming I would need a inspection ii on it? Unless a halfords "major" service was enough?
If not I think the inspection ii is around £1000?

Options wise, it's got Xenons and PDC, but only the basic Hi-Fi.

It might be the going rate for a later car but I picked up a 56 with 45K for £9.5K 18 months ago. The younger cars seem to have more of a price hike than lower mileage. Personally I wouldn't pay £11.5k, wheel refurb could be £3-400 with the splitting. Adverts always seem to price high then sit around for a long time. I'd be willing to bet nobody is biting his hand off and I'd pitch for £10.5k then maybe settle for £11K if you really like it.

If it needs a wheel refurb then I would try and get a bit more knocked off. Quick look on AutoTrader and there seems to be a few nice coupes about at that price range.

Spotted this one a d thought it looked nice doesn't have parking sensors though
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201703113169583?atmobcid=soc3

If you can get a deal and are happy with the car though the one you posted looks nice. Good luck with your search.

£11500 doesn't leave you much to chew on from the off :( a service ,wheel refurb & any other bits you may want to get sorted will soon make this a £12500 car which imo is too much
Ins2 on a 3.0Si is nowhere near £1000 but if the history is jumbled from my point of view you would be better off starting ownership with a clean sheet so factor £400/£450 for a "proper" service at a decent indy
108s themselves are a pig to refurb & prices will vary wildly from £180 / £400 ( they need unbolting , taking apart & refurbing before being bolted back together )
Its also unlikely you will buy a used Z4 on 108s with them totally mint so best off factoring some form of wheel budget into your equations if you can't stand imperfect wheels
Best of luck

Getting it serviced at Halfords and advertising on Gumtree doesn't, to me, have the hallmarks of an "enthusiast owner". And whilst I don't follow prices very closely that seems on the high side, even at the price you are at right now.

I would think the price is on the high side when you half to factor in a wheel refurb and probably a service.
There must be better looked after cars out there at your budget.

I cant find any auto with sensors and cruise for anywhere near that price

For around £10000 the mileage is around 80-90k which is a lot higher than 54k

Been looking on autotrader and pistonheads

Any ideas?

Don't forget you can retrofit cruise, so don't rule out any that don't have it already!

Price seems ok to me but valid points raised by others regarding insp 2 and wheel refurb. Do you know how extensive the major service was?

Yep I know about the cruise, BMW quoted £480 inc parts and VAT
A normal garage around £250-300
Its the cruise which will cost a lot more I gathered'

This is the doc he gave ref the major service with Halfords (see attached)

I then called halfords and they pointed me to their website
http://www.halfordsautocentres.com/advice/servicing-advice/car-servicing-whats-included

They also confirmed the car went through a major service and had two tyres replaced
