Hi all

I have a decision that I am finding hard to decide, I have a chance to sell my E85 3.0i auto for £8500 which is a good price. It has done 30k miles and fully optioned in silver with new England extended leather, and not far from concurs condition .. but I do not use it much and just sits in the garage.

I have a new range rover Evoque and my wife a new mini cooper, my wife has just been made redundant so have to watch my money more closely then before. Even though I don't use the Z4 much it would be a hard car to replace plus I like the auto box, plus I like to tinker every now and then.

I could do with the money for house DIY etc etc ..but once the Z4 has gone its gone, but £8500 is such a good price and the buyer will not wait for ever.

I worry about things going wrong that I could not afford to repair (as our other cars are under warranty) but on a plus side the car has been very reliable plus the brakes have all been replaced with new sensors fluids etc .. plus the M54 engine seems to be the last line of good reliable engines that the home DIY mech can work on.

Should I just keep it .. tinker every day and then and just use when I want to ? this has been a hard one for me

what your thoughts every one

Nick

I have attached a pic

thanks

Hi there,
For a minute I thought i was back in 2003, sat outside a bmw showroom, waiting to take delivery of that brand new silver z4 :D .
What a lovely looking car, for what it's worth I don't use mine much and it sits in the garage waiting for the occasional trip out.
I have use of a company car, my wife has her own car and I have often thought about selling mine as it seems a crying shame that I don't use it enough, but due to long working hours and other commitments means I simply don't get enough time to drive it.
One thing I do know is that whenever I open the garage door up and see it sat there, I just know if I ever opened it up and it wasn't there It would be very much missed :(
Don't sell it, you'll regret it one day, and the fact that your asking on here now shows that.
Keep it!

As above, such a beautiful car and you would regret it one day. Keep it and just enjoy it [emoji594][emoji100]

I would say unless you need the money now desperately to pay the mortgage etc then don't sell it. It doesn't seem to be costing you much and its there for high days and holidays. We've only been zed owners for a month or so but already can't see that we will ever sell it! Good luck with your choice.

Take the cash & buy one for half the money
i sold my Zc for £9k after struggling to justify it when i needed funds to finish a renovation project
It sat in the garage for 97% of the week so speaking from experience a budget Z can give just the same enjoyment & buzz whenever the garage door lifts & can be run on exactly the same budget

Hi

Thanks every one .. there is a little more info that is driving this issue, and that is next year I could sell my Evoque and with the Z4 money get a new Mustang (5.0l V8)

but then I loose my 4*4 capabilities for winter, plus our Evoque is doing 46 mpg (has a 9 speed box) so you could say currently I have best of both worlds, plus I still think the new UK mustang may still depreciate heavily

regards

Nick

What's more important to you? The money or car. If you sell it would you be happy? It's a hard thing to think of whenthings like this happen. For me I would keep it as it would be hard to find anether good example like yours. But only you can decide.

Don't look the gift horse in the mouth. Take this person's £8,500 before the men in the white coats take him back to the asylum. You could buy a really nice replacement Zed in a better colour and still bank £2,500. :poke:

Seriously though - take the offer you will never get a better price that is for sure!

+1

It's a tough call, but even the best examples of older cars can quickly require big bucks to maintain them and start to feel like a depreciating liability if they aren't being used. I hope your buyer doesn't read this but that price would shame Hexagon's efforts for a 2003 auto, a beautiful looking example but I doubt you will get even close to that money again. With sadness I'd probably sell in your shoes.

Mine is very similar to yours, although mines a 54 and if I was offered £8500 I take it.The only difference is that I would put it towards an ///M.

Tough call but using man Maths/logic to justify selling isn't the same as using it for buying, in this situation as your looking for a future swap anyway which means you're likely to swap, then bank the money, then reapply man Maths for new purchase, if you miss the z4, then there's enough well kept examples in this forum to keep with supply/demand... Maybe even a z4mr or coupe

Sell... not being funny but who in their right mind would spend £8500 on a 53 plate, even if it is in good nick? Sell it and buy another similar one, then take the missus on holiday with the spare £2-3k!

Lovely car Nick and will be hard to find anything as good again, but as everyone has said here - the money is so strong it makes sense to sell.

You can replace your Zed for far less money if you still feel compelled to have one and you will still be able to enjoy the drive and tinker to your hearts content - why not have a project to bring one back to the standard of what you have - plenty of work would do that.

It's a great price Nick - you won't see that again. . . .

:driving:

Know how you feel mate - was selling mine a few months ago - without boring you silly with the story didn't sell in the end - mine is a year newer ,absolutely unmarked and original with 29k - was selling for £7500 - still a very good price but......... if you don't need the money keep it . It's all very well saying there are plenty of good well cared for zeds around - that is until you start looking then you find you can't find a comparable car - nothing will match up to your own car - there will always be annoying marks , higher mileages , paint problems , SH question marks - the chances of finding an 11 year old car in that condition are virtually nil - people who have them keep them .

Mine is under cover Sorn'd for the winter in the garage but is always there each day to drool over :D :D
