Setting sport mode as default option

Ive had a quick read of the manual and messed about with the dashboard display but cant find a way of setting sport mode as the default.

Am i missing something or am i destined to have press the arrow buttons by the gear lever everytime I get in. As BMW is famous for the rediculous number of settings and options on its M cars surely something this fundamental must be possible?

If it's too much trouble to press the button each time you start the engine....

The button will only be a momentary switch, most likely push-to-make, so it should be fairly simple to produce a circuit containing a time-delay relay that will close for circa 500ms (powered by a 12v line that's only live after the ignition is switched on). This could be wired to the contacts on the rear of the sport button so that it 'pushes' the button for you several seconds after you start the engine.

Good old electrical engineering rather than coding

Bet if BMW found out (though no idea how) it would invalidate any warranty

You can buy a module from the US that will set a switch to a known state when the ignition is switched on. I'll dig out the link later one when I'm not on my phone. From memory, around 50 quid :)

Ah man, just press the button.

I wouldn't want sport by default, the throttle is too sharp on the 35i for commute traffic in sport, you get bunny hop head.. and as it tightens up the dampers (I have adaptive suspension) it also makes my fat wobble more!

Am I missing something here? I thought u just have to push a button for sport mode, surely it can't be that much of a hassle... :poke:

Having to press any button is a hassle and wastes valuable time and energy.

Annoys me having to switch on the "automatic" wipers.

Got half way to work this am and wanted to drop the top and the wife had not stored the shelf properly. That was annoying too.

Sorry, no amount of options in car menus will stop your wife being a lazy cow...
