My local indy does inspection 2 for about £250. As far as service history goes, here is a quote from their web site:Ciprian said:Still not sure if I should take it the 'stealer' or private. It has FBMWSH so far..think would be a shame to break it!![]()
The European carried out an investigation in the 1990s into Cartels, restrictive practices and anti-competition tactics by major manufacturers in many types of business. The law was subsequently changed to prevent these practices and open up the markets. The dear old motor industry was given a temporary reprieve from these new laws - the Block Exemption.
However, in October 2003, the Block Exemption was lifted (despite strenuous lobbying by the motor industry).
So, what does it mean? The important issues are:
Your car can be serviced wherever you choose, as long as the manufacturers recommendations are followed (as emtec do) and here’s the best bit - THE MANUFACTURER’S OR USED CAR WARRANTY CANNOT BE INVALIDATED.
If anybody (e.g. Dealer salesmen) suggest that a vehicle is devalued because it has not been dealer maintained, they could actually be breaking the law!! At emtec we can provide certification if required that our work is of the manufacturer’s standard.
From BMW UK web site:un1eash said:What about trading your BMW in at a later date, do all Used BMW's they sell have to have full BMW service history?
Note that it says maintained in strict adherence to BMW servicing recommendations and not serviced at a BMW dealer. BMW may argue that a vehicle has only been "maintained in strict adherence to BMW servicing recommendations" if done at a dealer but, as per my previous post, I'm not sure that is entirely legal. Best bet .... phone a dealer and ask them!Full service history
Only BMWs which have been maintained in strict adherence to BMW servicing recommendations can qualify as Approved Used BMWs. In addition, any BMW with a service due within 4,000 miles or displaying less than three service interval lights has the appropriate service carried out prior to delivery. The only exception is where the vehicle has the benefit of a service package where the requirement is reduced to 1,000 miles or one service light.
