Just to check . . .

Oil Service->Inspection I->Oil Service->Inspection II?

What sort of ballpark cost is an Inspection II at a main stealer?

Order of service is correct, not usre of price for isnp II, but best to phone 3 dealers to compare and haggle.

My previous 323Ci (E46) had Inspection 2 for around £350-£400, but it was 5 years ago.

anybody else with an idea how much Inspection 2 would be? Im about to do it on mine, thinking on buying the oil privately as I dont see why I should pay 50 quid extra from BMW.

Insepction 2 on the M is circa £600-£1100.....obviously shop around to get the £600! Not sure if the Alpina will be similar to this or the much cheaper 3.0.

Still not sure if I should take it the 'stealer' or private. It has FBMWSH so far..think would be a shame to break it! :headbang:

Just booked my 3.0i in for the Inspection II on monday at the stealers. Quoted me £450 originally, knocked them down to £350

My local indy does inspection 2 for about £250. As far as service history goes, here is a quote from their web site:
The European carried out an investigation in the 1990s into Cartels, restrictive practices and anti-competition tactics by major manufacturers in many types of business. The law was subsequently changed to prevent these practices and open up the markets. The dear old motor industry was given a temporary reprieve from these new laws - the Block Exemption.

However, in October 2003, the Block Exemption was lifted (despite strenuous lobbying by the motor industry).

So, what does it mean? The important issues are:

Your car can be serviced wherever you choose, as long as the manufacturers recommendations are followed (as emtec do) and here’s the best bit - THE MANUFACTURER’S OR USED CAR WARRANTY CANNOT BE INVALIDATED.

If anybody (e.g. Dealer salesmen) suggest that a vehicle is devalued because it has not been dealer maintained, they could actually be breaking the law!! At emtec we can provide certification if required that our work is of the manufacturer’s standard.

I have also read this elsewhere.

What about trading your BMW in at a later date, do all Used BMW's they sell have to have full BMW service history?

From BMW UK web site:
Full service history
Only BMWs which have been maintained in strict adherence to BMW servicing recommendations can qualify as Approved Used BMWs. In addition, any BMW with a service due within 4,000 miles or displaying less than three service interval lights has the appropriate service carried out prior to delivery. The only exception is where the vehicle has the benefit of a service package where the requirement is reduced to 1,000 miles or one service light.
Note that it says maintained in strict adherence to BMW servicing recommendations and not serviced at a BMW dealer. BMW may argue that a vehicle has only been "maintained in strict adherence to BMW servicing recommendations" if done at a dealer but, as per my previous post, I'm not sure that is entirely legal. Best bet .... phone a dealer and ask them!

Rang Sytners today - was quoted £429. They'll drop that by 10% on the Four-plus scheme so not as bad as I was expecting. Bit miffed that the "courtesy" car will cost me £10 for the insurance though!

On the matter of Indy vs Dealer I was very much in the Indy camp with my old Lotus but the decent Indys were really well known in the Lotus community so it was generally seen as a better thing than a FLSH. However, with the Alpina I've stuck with main dealers throughout - at 15k mile intervals its not too bad and saves any awkward questions when I come to sell.
