Sell or Sorn ? Twist or stick ? 2008 82k M roady

991 manual would sort that :P

In fairness, that is many multiples of the price of the M so not a realistic comparison.

Partly, I drove a rare manual c2. It was more involving for sure, but an iffy clutch action and super long ratio's don't help. I still don't think start / stop shouldn't be on a 911 anyway!

They just feel more GT car rather than sportscar these days. None of the front end bob or character of the earlier cars either.

I'd either a) keep it or b) flog it for something like a TTRS (I can't believe I'm saying that).

Have you been drinking :P
i Should have added i'm not looking at any other cars as there is nothing of interest to me
If i sold it would be replaced by either another ZM , a 3.0Si or possibly E89 , obviously if either of the latter proved disppointing by comparison then id twist again & head back into a M

In that case keep it. Whilst an E89 might be an easier car to live with every day, as a weekend fun car I don't think it can't hold a candle to the M.

Have you never considered something like an Exige? Could be an excellent follow on from an M, very reliable Toyota power plant, oodles of fun for weekend runs and exceptional residuals.

When its time to weigh it in,an E89 is the obvious progression..

Yea,its not as hardcore with super stiff suspension as the M car,its more grown up...

Handling is more then good, especially with EDC,normal mode gives you superb touring suspension with loads of compliance where sport mode puts its similar to an M with eibachs or H&R.... Non of the settings give a ride like a M on normal springs, thats only a good thing in my eyes..

Yes..... A 997.2 or a 991 is better on the edge but is gonna cost you double or treble the money..... That said,if that kinda of money was to be spent then i would wouldnt be having a Porsche..

Be happy that a twin turbo E89 with a remap will keep most things honest no matter how much money has been spent... 4.5secs to 62mph is no slouch and i would expect high 10's to 100mph..... 500NM of torque standard, probably 550nm with the remap gives a totally different feel to the S54....I think that produces around 360nm...

What else can you buy for the money that gives this kinda performance ?

As always in life the sensible option isn't the fun option.

Just drive it every chance you get if it makes you happy.

You never know what's round the corner, our lives can change for the worst so ridiculously fast sometimes.

When your sat in the nursing home in years to come shitting your pants and dribbling, you won't be thinking " I'm really glad I didn't put to many miles on my sports car "

Or sell this one and release some cash. And buy a cheaper M one you wouldn't mind putting miles on? I don't know one like the shitty football??

+1 for what Yorkie said. If a Z4MR is the car for you, stick with it. Better the devil you know... :)

Your view of the 35iS is interesting. It's got a very crashy ride and too much power in standard form for the chassis, never mind remapping it. It's a good fast cruiser or motorway mile muncher but proper sports car for the weekend enthusiast it ain't and never will be.

Very difficult decision Andy.

I'm in the same boat and not sure what I'm going to do

My dream would be a 981 Boxster S but I can't justify £30k plus my car.

I can probably just about stretch to a 981 2.7 but would I regret it and be wanting more power?

E89 35is would probably be the safest bet (tried and tested) but after 3 Z4's I think I fancy a change.

I'm also thinking about trying an Elise (R) but I'm not sure if I'd enjoy the ride due to my frame.

One think is for sure the Z4M is great value for money and there is not much else out there for sub £20k

The ride is far from "crashy" on an e89...... Its a Rolls Royce in comparison to a "M" cars suspension....

The chassis can easily take the BHP and the added 60 bhp...... The guys in the USA are getting 800bhp from the N54 TT without any chassis mods...

You may say its not a proper sports car.... But will keep with and beat a Z4M,which i assume you think is a "proper" sports car ?

Horses for courses.... Perhaps the one you drove had a fault ??

I have been round the track in Ian's 35is and I thought it was great. No mods on that one it's all standard and it shifted. It felt sharp and agile not quite as alive as my car but very very composed. And that was on a very tight and twisty track.

If you wanted to sell then maybe this thread would not have been written. Deep down you love this car. Drive and enjoy it :driving: :(

Keep it- for the small amount it costs per year drive and enjoy- it is a hobby more than a car!

Yep - think of it like a painting rather than a car. I like collecting cars to look and occasionally play with :)

Look I agree that the 35iS is more modern, and a bit quicker. It should be - it's list price is £45k and its 5 years newer technology. It's a night and day better every day car for the person with one car. There's no real argument about that.

But that's not what Mr Wilks is really after is it? He's after a weekend open-top toy that will go well, be a special occasion and possibly a financially shrewd place to put his cash (or as shrewd as one can be when putting cash in a car). The M is a better bet for that narrow usage. That's all I'm saying.

What on earth would I want 800hp for? Unless I'm going to Santa Pod or Bruntingthorpe or maybe a hill climb. Frankly my car is too fast to properly enjoy safely on the road these days as it is.That's why I get up at 6.30am on a Sunday now when i want to have some fun.

I actually preferred the 35i to the 35iS. It wasn't trying to be something it wasnt. It's a more resolved package. I did find the 35iS harsh and ridiculously so in Sport +. I also think the chassis cannot properly handle what it has. The rear end doesn't seem to talk to the front end. Or at least seems half a second adrift of what the front end is doing. I thought it felt peculiar.

You can always criticise the MC of course - you know the car like i do, but I'll be honest about its shortcomings - it's damping is dreadful on badly surfaced b-roads. But I think the M Roadster is a lot better than the Coupe in that regard. I driven Darren's a few times and it's certainly less harsh over bad roads. Apart from that though it's a pretty decent car. It's not perfect of course, but perfection comes in the shape of a Cayman if that's what floats your boat.
