So, I have just taken delivery of my shiny new EBC Discs and Pads.
(Ultimax and Green Stuff)

I was thinking of using a "Self Service Garage" to do the work. There is one I have been reading about on Pistonheads in Chesterfield, just off M1 Junction 29.

http://www.selfservicecentre.com/about.html

Has anybody used them before? It is a good 40 minute drive for me but using a car lift and some correct tools will be great.

Anybody with nothing to do on a week day next week, feel free join me!

I wish the place was a little closer and I would of definetly joined you. Would be quite a good idea to go with someone else and then split the cost.

Ooh this looks interesting and is only 14 miles away! Let us know when you're there and ill pop down :)

Yer, looks like a goos set up.
I called them and I may go on Tuesday, they have a couple of lifts avaliable.

I will let you know when I book it. Even if I'm on my own, can't take more than a few hours :?

There are a few of them popping up here & there - but make sure they've got all the correct liability insurance in place in case their lifts/ramps/tools fail and injure you or your car (I'm not saying that this is likely, or even possible, but it's too late to ask once something's gone wrong).

same here..

so... this place has all the tools - you just turn up and pay £20 an hour for ramp usage and then you get on with whatever you want to do, using their tools?

if so, that's fekkin ace

20 an hour? God now I'm really glad we have the self service shop (hobby shop) on base. I think it's $5 or less. I wonder if they'd let me uhm "escort" ya'll to do work.

Yep, I called them yesterday and he said they have everything I will require. They also sell oil, brake fluid etc if required.
Another good thing is that you can get your parts sent to them directly rarther than having to spend a day at home waiting for a delivery.

As for the price - looks a bit expensive but it's average across the other garages.
Welcome to the UK and the UK cost of living Aebous :D

Heh yeah, like I said, it's things like that that make me appreciate what the base offers us military folk.

Hi,

thanks for the positive feedback about us; heres a few thoughts for yout to peruse -

we are open7 days a week 8am-8pm (or outside of these hours if you wish, and you notify us in advance)

we can supply all consumables (oil, filters, brake discs & pads etc etc) at trade prices

we have 2x2post lifts (3.5 & 4 tonne) and a 4 tonne overhead heavy duty (and I mean heavy duty - it can pick cars up) crane

the use of all tools (inc air tools, sockets, spanners, oil drainers etc) is included in the price

we have 2 on-site mechanics to assist or do the work for you if required (very reasonable rates), one of whom is a welder and can weld or fabricate to your specifications

we have an auto-electrician on site with the latest diagnostic equipment

the auto electrician is also a qualified MOT tester, so we can undertake MOT's for you as well.

Lastly, we have an experienced 'detailer' working within the premises (does work for an Independant Ferrari dealer) Prices start for a full detail (not a 'valet!!!) from £150, and using only the finest products from Dodo Juice, Chemical Guys and Swissvax.

The detailing is excellent (3 cars featured in national magazines in the last 3 months including FastCar & Performance French Car and the most recent detail was chosen by Dodo Juice to showcase theire latest 'Purple Haze Pro' wax (see attachment below)

http://www.dodojuice.com/purple-haze-pro-carnauba-car-wax.html

In addition, we are supported by the Maxxd forum, and a number of the cars we have detailed, had customers work on their own cars, or cars that we have worked on for them, are featured on the site (search on 'forums' for our member name J29SSC)

http://www.maxxd.com/

With regards to pricing, the below is a job we are just doing, and gives an indication of pricing;

"Our latest recession-busting saving;

we had a lady customer contact us regarding her 2002 '52' Seat Leon 1.4 petrol.

She had contacted her Seat Main Dealer and explained that she wanted the cam belt changing and a service, and was quoted £620 inc parts & labour.

She then contacted ourselves, and we worked out the following deal for her;

a cam belt change (inc.belt, tensioner and pulleys)

a Full Service (inc. air filter, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, pollen filter and labour etc.)
(And don't forget that the parts we use are ALL OEM parts, not cheap after-market rubbish!)

And our price was........ £336, (inc VAT @ 17.5%!)

A SAVING OF £284 (or 46%)

That's the equivalent of almost 18months Road Fund Licence saved, or 1 years Insurance!

This doesn't include the cost of a Private Ambulance that the lady needed when she fell over with shock at how cheap our prices are!!!!

So, if you are happy to pay Main Dealer prices, feel free to do so.

If, on the other hand, you'd like to make savings like the above, give us a ring NOW !

After all, that money is better in your pocket ! "

Please feel free to ring us if you want any advice (it's free!) or to discuss any aspect of servicing with us : 01246 859778
or email us on [email protected]

Thank you for looking and your kind comments

Dean

Sorry,

I forgot to add, that we have full insurance (public liability etc), PPE to wear (hats, safety glasses etc) and our detailer is also insured in the unlikely event that any damage is caused to your car whilst being detailed.

Thanks

I think you'll be seeing me come payday :)
got several jobs to do on the car, and having a lift bay would make life so much easier.

but before I commit, can you give us an exact hourly price for using a lift bay to work on a Z4 (not including parts or mechanics assistance)?
(basically, lets assume I wanted to change my oil, clean the undertray and swap out my discs...)

I will be there from 11am

Hi sk93

The price are.............. :D

£20 per hour for a Bay with a Lift
£10 per hour for a Bay Inc jack and axle stands

All tools are included (also air tools)

However at the moment there is 30% off until the end of Febuary

So thats £14 per hour for a lift
