Seb's Z4 3.0i

This is more to document my progress as well, with ADD I tend to forget what I've done to my cars... doh!

So it's had a new steering rack fitted at about a £680 cost. Also a full laser alignment done at Tyres Northampton.

Just ordered a set of new rear springs and a front passenger wishbone bush.

Should also be picking up a set of 16" winter wheels this evening so may have some Conti 850's on them by the end of the week.

Nice car!

I rarely use my car on the motorway, but drove back from London last night and set cruise. Very little traffic on the road and barely touched the pedals for the entire trip! Even managed to get 38mpg from my 3.0!

How are you getting on with updating the maps? Mine doesn't have my road or the road before it on there as it was all built at around the same time as my car was! I've got a price from BMW for about £170 or so, are there any other options?

Not a bad mpg really! I average 30 per tank normally. I have V32 firmware on the nav now and am running 2012 maps. Other than going to BMW or buying off somewhere on the web there are no other `legal` ways to get updated maps.

I have no idea what they are though!

Mine has navigation and no cruise control. Only had it a month I have used the nav but have not thought about the other. Now I want it.... Thanks you lot talking about it! I need to sop looking on hear I have an ever increasing list.

Thanks. I've seen a few second hand discs on eBay, but I think there are different versions for different BMW sat nav systems. Is that correct? I've seen this one for example... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Sat-N...8?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item19d61eb2ce
but the link doesn't have the Z4 listed as compatible.

All I know is that my one is a Mark IV Nav unit which takes the 'BMW HIGH' maps, whatever that means! I'm sure there's some info on what they all required in the FAQ which is... somewhere on the forum!

Apparently they are called style 30s!

Sat inside now while they fit the new wheels and winter tyres, rear springs, from wishbone bushes and remove the clutch delay valve!

Car is at 77,500 miles - for my own reference!

Very dirty car this morning with the new diddly wheels on.

Have some new centre caps on the way as it's missing three!

Why the diddy wheels? Nice looking motor though, best colour IMO.

I thought all the earlier zed's had the wiring for cruise so it'd go straight in?

Most likely will go straight in if I'd got round to checking!!

Diddy wheels as they have snow tyres. Will be trekking up the Alps to chamonix at Christmas or Easter so didn't want to take the tyres off the 108s. Going to get the 18s refurbed at some point. Buying those 16s for £60 and then tyres for £400 worked out cheaper anyway!

Popped into town on Sunday morning and spent £24 on some lacquer and silver wheel paint.

In short - they are a terrible job and I would be disappointed if they came back from a refurb centre in that condition, however that would be taking into consideration a £60-£75 cost per wheel, not the £7 per wheel it cost me (along with the 4 hours or so I spent doing it), so all in all, for a set of winter wheels refurbed for under £25, they'll do! (Especially as before they were worn right down through the paint in some places).

Painted the calipers while the wheels were off too.

Also spent some time removing all the wipers and scraping the conductive grease off as they tended to stick half way up the windscreen at some point in the cycle. So far so good and no issues just yet.

Cruise control fitted and works a treat! :D
Good man! Great for long journeys! I use mine every day! Took a road trip to Switzerland this summer and spent hours in end not touching the pedals! Was nice getting off the main roads to feel like you are driving again!

Fitted a set of HIDs this morning, will see how it goes but so far no problems or error codes!

55W 4300K canbus error cancelling kit for reference.

Lowered the white balance on the phone to get some idea of what they look like.

This is a kind of 'before' image, as I'm fitting LED sidelights and high lumen LED fogs as well, will then do a comparison of low beam/fog light before and after lighting power and decide which ones to use, it's very important as I'm heading up the Alps and wanted the best view I could get. Can be very foggy up there in the mornings.
