Scottish Autumn Run - 13th October Confirmed

Here's a video clip of the run thro' the Sma' Glen on the route from Crieff to Dunkeld.
I am still a beginner at this video lark and haven't quite mastered film speeds and resolutions yet.
I'm not sure if it's the way Youtube compresses the file but I get a bit of pixelation where the image is underexposed such as under trees etc.

Don't be fooled by the time on the timeline it's only 5 mins.

Wow - love that Malcolm - great choice of music too!

What set up did you use to get these results?

Really like that. . .

Brilliant, love it

Homesick now, spent my school days in Crieff, want to go for a hoon in the mountains :(

I have a GoPro Hero3 silver edition. Mounted upside down on the windscreen with a huge suction mount I bought separately.
The GoPro suction mount is really too small.
I filmed that sequence at 720pHD 30fps I dont think you need 1020p or higher to watch on a computer screen.

Tip - click on the little cog wheel and select 720p and select the bigger screen - not full screen.

Love the tractor music Malc, great choice

Yeah it was a bit of a spoiler, but hey ho, inherent danger in the glens

Malcolm - Had a look at your other videos - enjoyed them - though never heard that tractor music before!

Adds another dimension to the runs seeing the recordings back which I like a lot.

John - we had to take a picture of everyone with their hands up behind the tractor - think you started it!

Some more good pics folks, only one from me that's different from the rest

Had the tyre replaced today, all sorted, though they did turn up with a Goodyear Excellence and not an Eagle F1 yesterday .

Excellent !

I am impressed by the good humour you have shown in response to the predicament in which you found yourself.
I have to confess that I would be "effing and blinding" if it had happened to me.

It does look very clean on the low loader Andrew - glad you got it sorted and hope it does not put your old man off coming on future runs out with us.

Yeah - quite a sad wee pic but very nicely lit !

Glad you got it fixed AndrewP and as Malc says your relaxed approach in such scenarios is to be commended - you're a credit tothe forum. I know some of us might react a tad more demonstrably !

I was thinking that as I believe most of us travel to forum runs without a spare that maybe some off the regulars could chip in for a communal spare wheel/tyre combo that could act as something of a spacesaver that could fit both front & rear Non M & M alike and at least allow a car to be driven cautiously home rather than be stranded in some of the more remote areas we can find ourselves in.

I know this would involve a jack etc. too but other than our occasional camping trips there ought to be space . .

It would involve a bit of co-ordination and might ensure that no-one ever suffers a remote far rom home puncture again !

any thoughts . . .?

Hmm - read your post Jax and initially thought 'that's a sensible idea'.

After thinking further wonder if we all have recovery of some sort and perhaps that's a fair gamble to take and use when needed? A few other thoughts. . .

Who's going to keep the space saver and will they be at lots/all runs? How do we get it to others if that person can't make it? Will there be all the kit available - wheel brace (long!) jack needed if others are expected to have them will they be there - same problems arise in relying on others for same. . . you get the idea. . .as you said there would need to be some coordination and perhaps it would be better that one person has the 'kit' - in which case, perhaps if folk wanted they'd get the kit themselves?

Also is it possible to run home on one of these space savers - is there a distance limit? How far do most members travel for a 'hoon'? I wouldn't have fancied the 150 miles home in the dark and rain at 50 max all the way on Sunday. We'd have probably gone for the RAC option for safety and to avoid the slog home.

Be interested though to hear what others think as I'm not averse to chipping in to avoid the hassle Andrew had on Sunday - wonder what Andrew thinks?

Certainly would have been a big help Sunday! How many times has this happened on a 'hoon'?

It's the first time a puncture has happened on any of the Scottish hoons I'm aware of in 3 years or so and hopefully the last !

I agree that logistically it's probably a non starter - some of us live fairly close but others are 2-3 hours from each other within Scotland alone.

I guess most of us have AA/RAC etc. - I know I wouldn't be without it and made sure it was upgraded to euro cover when we drove to Stelvio etc. last year. I would NOT have carried a spare on that trip as needed the boot space for a 10 day trip etc, and resolved ourselves that such a puncture could ruin a day.

I wasn't actually thinking of a spacesaver -but a regular 18" wheel that might not be precisely the right size tyre for everyone. Fills the boot more than a little though and we always seem to fill ours with stuff -spare jackets etc. anyway and I know the M's have a smaller boot as do the E89s ! Just a thought.

Great video's (and music)
Try 'handbrake' Its a free down load and helps reducing your video file size without reducing quality. There's some you tube videos that show its use before you decide.
Go pro and video rendering can consume a lot of your time! Hope to meet you on the next 'hoon'
