Scotland 2013/14 Meets List - needs a new owner for 2015

Been thinking about the August meet, playing around with google maps and getting way too adventurous again

I was going to call it the West Highland Wahoo... But it's turned into a monster, in my head at least. We agreed that three days would be better than 2 this time. Now, if we did the same amount of driving as we did last time we'd be looking at circa 750 miles in 3 days... And I would add almost 1,000 getting to the start and back :D

If we did that we could do :

Day 1 - Perth start, up through Braemar and Tomintoul using the Braemar Boogie route... And all the way to Thurso :o

Day 2 - this is the real worry as I've no idea of the roads, but the initial idea is take the coast all the way from Thurso to Applecross... Though I am not sure if that's doable. By god, it would be spectacular though. Also, if we have as many as last time we may not be able to get enough B&B spaces... Though I know many have been there before so advice will be sought.

Day 3 - Applecross to Perth, taking in the familiar Glencoe /Rannoch Moor road, but cutting off towards Killin and Crieff. We also have a great place for our last lunch of course.

All of that would be a pretty epic trip :driving:

An alternate idea which would reduce driving is to not go so far as Thurso, maybe just to Bonar Bridge, then cut across the hilly stuff to the coast and then down to Applecross.

Just some musings as summer approaches, and it would be nice to have this one planned a little further in advance of the trip... Interested in anyone's thoughts, perhaps I should start a fresh thread ?

Sounds good - count us in

August is good for us Bing - Can't help you with the roads though :(

Been to Thurso - think it's the most northern railway station on the mainland. (40 years ago - things may have changed a little  )

Good idea to start a new thread Bing

Allan, I was under the impression we were going to be organising a Skye run for August, which I was hoping/thinking you/me and Andrew would be getting together on sorting out, though the Braemar boogie that's been done in the past is a great route.
I have info on this route, as does Adam etc,
and Jack would be good for routes info too, on these and other routes.

Sure we can all sort something out. :driving:

That would be an epic amount of miles in 1 weekend mate

Will pm you and Andrew, etc and maybe we can sort some routes/drives out, and I was thinking it would be nice to include a West coast route that's not too far from me/Jack etc. though wil have trouble fitting everything in, lol

Hi all,

I will be picking up my zed in a couple of weeks (sooner if I can get a couple of days off work) :)

Wondered if you could add me to the Scottish list. I am in Spean Bridge so Glasgow / West would be the section.

Thanks all.

craig3.2, I wasn't aware Skye was set in stone... I just figured it might be good to do roads we've not done for a while - or at all in my case way up north. Though we're kind of stuck with Fort William wherever or whichever way we go. We could cut off the top and go through Applecross onto Skye I guess, but up for suggestions. We'll sort it out, there's loads of time

Yeah, happy to do whatever , and as you said, plenty of time/ but would be good to get some dates and routes sorted in the coming weeks-ish.

I pm'd you and Andrew, and will speak to Jack at some point re maybe getting a route around/including parts of Ayrshire sorted :driving:
The Braemar routes a good one, worth doing again....I have routes from past meet if we want to do that, mate.

Thanks for the welcome Craig. Any route which goes past Fort William is great for me as I am only 10 miles from there.

The Mallaig or Newton more road from Fort William are both good fun.

This would be something I would definitely be interested in! But instead of driving all the way down to Perth which would be a boring duel carriageway for me, I could meet you guys in Braemar or Tomintoul depending on which route it is. Would be much easier access for me and much nicer roads to drive passing through Ballater. Anyway, if this is going ahead, count me in! :driving:
