satnav install problems

Hi I've just finished wiring up my sat nav retrofit then worked out how to put it into english. I then went for a spin to see if the sat nav is working. All seems fine apart from the sat nav sound. Should I be hearing any bleeps rings or speech when aproaching a turn or anything. As I have put the sound on max and havent heard anything from it as yet. Or is it just for traffic information? I was a little concerned when wiring the radio up ,with wire A7 and A8 that I had put them in the correct terminal. Please see picture below. Ive put them in the small black block that is held in by the white surround. Can anyone verify this is correct?
Cheers Jamie

As I said in the other thread, you need to plug into the black plug which you don't have. You said you had bluetooth but I am guessing this is after market otherwise you would have it. You will have to do as I did and order it from the dealer.

I have just got my z4 and i have the same problem, no sound on nav.
I believe it was factory fitted but cant be 100% sure.
i also have bluetooth.

How can i check if it was factory fitted or not?

So is this right? The empty slot next to the white surrounded block should have a block in it. If it's missing it is due to not having blue tooth or a retro fit blue tooth. So I need to go to Halfords or bmw garage tomorrow and pick one up. Cheers in advance. Jamie

Jamie the only place you will get this plug is a BMW dealer, make sure you order the right one as it's not the same as the one that's already there as I mentioned before.

just a lil note to concur with the above.. this block is used for aux in, nav, bluetooth... i see you're in coventry.. if you can wait a few days ill see if i still have a spare? i had 3 at one point...

mainly because i bet it's a bitch to find the part number..

Cheers that would be great. I 've used the back of the plug off my Denison 100 as a donnor currently. Srhutch was correct. Put the block in, moved the pins to the correct block and I now have sound. Now the only problem I have is I've just sheered the bolt to the positive terminal to the battery. :headbang:

Just about to do that now! Thought Id take a break after putting in the Harness. Why is it they never give you enough cable to fit it how you want too? After 2 hours and 2 different attempts to route it, I finally got the blasted thing in. Don’t think I've sworn so much within two hours! The I get the Gps aerial out, which you could mount it pretty much anywhere and they give you enough cable to mount it on a canal barge. :D

I didn't have any problems with the length of the loom, but GPS aerial as yours could have been mounted on the front bumper I had enough cable.

Good luck with the cutting, and take your time.

Well it's in now in. Not screwed down as I want to do a few adjustments in the morning. Didn't find it too difficult to cut, although making the hole too small cost me hours in cutting it back. In the end I routed the harness under the speaker casing. I wanted to put it through the hole in the back of the centre console, and run the harness behind the boot lining with the other harnesses then round the back of the speaker but it wouldn't reach the connectors. Where has everyone else put theres? A question about the GPS Mk VI mine seems to have the red light flash now and again and it spins from time to time even if I'm not using the sat nav even when the key is not in the ignition Is this normal? Bought it second hand off ebay so a bit wary before I start putting all the trim back in place? Cheers all Jamie

Jamie

sounds like you have run the loom where it is meant to be, it's not meant to be anywhere need the boot, mine runs under the sub woofer/oddment bin behind the passenger seat then down the centre console.

Regarding the red light, that's normal

Wouldn't have thought so. If I were you I would firstly check the nav volume. If it's not that I would pull out the radio and have a look at the wiring in the back of it and comapre it with the pics I ll add later. Hardest thing to do will be to remove the air vent. Can someone confim that when the car is locked and been left, that it is normal for the red light on the gps MK IV to be on along with the eject button? Cant understan why it needs to be on and dont want to drain the battery. Cheers all

The light is on until the system goes in shutdown after 15 minutes.

Go to the dealer with you vin. and ask them to check - they should be able to give you a read out of accesories fitted on delivery.

I've now fitted the screen in the dash but I'm not happy with it. Dispite removing alot of sponge under the vinyl I can not get the thing to lay flat and flush. I have made one mistake in not cutting the 3 prongs long enough at the back of the hole. Which has meant that if I screw it in it just pulls it backwards as I have had to drill them at an angle, so Ive left them out. So some how I need to force the back dowm without using the screw. Anyone any ideas?
