Sat Nav, Telephone and Google Maps

OK so I thought I knew everything about my car, but made a discovery today.

With my iPhone 6 is paired to the Zed I noticed today that when I entered navigation instruction into my Google maps then each time a verbal direction instruction was given, the green phone call symbol popped up, radio was suppressed and instruction came through the speakers. It worked regardless of what screen I had showing (maps, computer, etc.)

I know I usually rely on the internal sat nav, but unless I've missed something this has to be a new quirk as no way have I missed this for the may years of ownership.

Anyone else noticed this?

I don't have nav, but instead plug in my iPhone 6 and secure it via a vent mount. The instructions come through the car speakers and mute the radio/CD if I'm paired via bluetooth, or reduce the sound of my Spotify if I am plugged into my Aux.

When BT is on, the phone instructions always go through the speakers. The same when using Waze for the speed cameras.

It looks a bit odd on the screen, as it keeps saying "dialiing"

Live and learn. Maybe I've just never used phone based instructions, other thab for actual calls, when connected via Bluetooth. Agree PVR with the oddity of 'dialling', which it's clearly not.

Neat though :)

i think its always been there. Bit confusing if you have the car nav going, and your partner is using google maps on the paired phone!

Its been working on my 4s for a long time, so don't think its new.

I think you can use SIRI through the car too, but you have to activate it through the phone

Mine mutes when Waze says something... But I've never noticed it say 'dialling'.

WAZE for the speed cameras. Please explain for those of us that are uninitiated?

When you use Waze, it tells you about every speed camera, every parked car on the hard shoulder etc.
