"That Part" is only the iternals of the DVD drive so no good unless you have the external parts.

You can use a pre facelift screen as long as it's black, grey would look so wrong.

is the prefacelift monitor exactly the same or is it upgraded in some way?

Exactly the same I would think, except there is a grey version available. Just make sure you dont pick up one for the X3 as they are often sold saying they fit X3 & Z4, but the X3 is different and although it will fit it wont look right.

are there any specs available on some specific nav computers or are all mkivs basically the same altough without the same shape?
would this work?

thanks again man, sorry for keep bothering you like that but you are the most capable guy i know when it comes to nav system (my local dealer doesnt know s**t :P

Part number from www.realoem.com shows 65129118825 for both USA and europe cars. This would be for the latest black unit I believe.

however just searched your part number and it came up with a long list [/url]http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT53&mospid=47799&btnr=65_1207&hg=65&fg=05&hl=30 Looks like that would also be OK ... he does take 6 hours to cut the hole :poke:

ok, both part numbers are on this link but under 2 different descriptions, one says something about high def radio(dont know a thing about it) and the other says something about on board monitor with tv, so i guess the questions are:
1) do you think that the one with high def radio has high def radio, or is it a supplement? what is high def radio? i dont think we have that in colombia abd therefore i dont think i need it,at least for now, but maybe in the future, who knows, maybe worthy
2) the one with tv function, does it mean that i need this specific radio in order to retrofit tv function? if it doesnt mean this, then whats the upside of this radio regarding tv function? i think ill put tv feature on my car in a near future so it maybe worthy
what do you think knowing that this is a one time buy (feel bad already for upgrading my new cars radio but nav with monitor is a must after seeing intravee2 in action with alpine module for ipod)

If you dont mind saying, what was the total cost?

I bought my radio in the USA, the first time you switch it on you have to change region. That option ONLY appears once, never after that again so be very careful when you switch it on the first time NOT to miss that. It allows you to set all sorts of things the first time, region of the world, languages available etc.

900 bucks, still waiting for it to arrive. thanks man for the info but i would need some more input as i live in south america and dont know which options to choose in order for it to work properly if you remember and can shed any light id be most grateful

I just finished installing a factory navigation system in my 2005 Z4 3.0i, but I can't seem to get power to the NAV DVD unit. The retrofit instructions that I used indicated that pins 5 and 11 on the backside of the radio supply the power to the unit, but when I test those pins for voltage I get nothing. While I realize that my existing CPU needs to be re-programmed to know that a navigation unit has been installed, I would not have thought that the re-programming would have resulted in these two pins getting power. Does anybody know if that's true? The radio and CD function without issue.

Thanks,
David

The Nav unit does NOT get the power from pin 5 and 11, that is the voice part only.

The power comes from the bus connector behind the passenger seat. No programming required by the way, not at all.

I presume you have the required factory loom as this has all the wiring you need for the job. If you dont have bluetooth you will need a plug from the main dealer which I have the part number for if you need it.

Also you need to test everything before installing, if you cut the dash before testing and have an issue it could be an expensive mistake.

As above though no programming is required, and pins on back of radio are for spoken command from nav i.e. turn left right etc..

Srhutch,

I do have bluetooth installed, but I'd appreciate the part number that you refer to just in case. I guess I'm puzzled, because the MKIV only had two bus connections on the back (one for the display, and one that I thought was for power, but you are telling me that it was for the voice info. The only other connections were a ground wire and a GPS antenna cable. I bought the Nav from ebay from someone in Germany. I've already installed everything, so there is no turning back now. I guess I'll take the NAV unit back out and look for the bus that I need to power the unit. If anybody has photos or anything else that will assist me in identifying the correct harness I would appreciate your input.

Thanks,
David
