sat nav has dementia

The nav screen displays my position at least 100 miles out, just been down to portloe in Cornwall from here in Exmouth ,& it started wandering off the road I was on,then kept gradually getting further out of position, showing me in the sea at one point, then when we arrived it showed that we were in the Tiverton area, have ejected & cleaned the disc, left the disc out overnight last night, but it's still the same.
Has anyone encountered this before? Or have any ideas that might sort it out?

I just returned from New York City where I needed to rent a car :?
Yikes - Hertz lent me a Toyota Prius
(WTF is that ? A car or a toy - Thank gawd the owners manual was still in the glove box )
Thought I'd save the Sat Nav charge by using my Tom Tom
Bad decision.
Try to get a location update in Manhattan's concrete valley ?
Like at one point I was apparently positioned in the middle of the Empire State Building ! True !
But for some reason I avoided domestic implosion by biting my tongue and just going with the adventure.
Every street and avenue in NYC has something amazing to discover anyway.
Somehow I stumbled on the proper tunnel and ended up in Queens.
Lucky for me that was where I was planning to go in the first place.
You all know what they say about life tossing you lemmons.
I'm still here to tell the tale.

Cheers
Bumpy...

Now go discuss Prius' and all this "keep yer car keys in your pocket", "stop / start golf cart drive" technology coming down the tube.

Try disconnecting the battery for half an hour or more, then reconnect it. You'll need to reset the one touch function on the windows and also reset the clock, but it might sort it out. Lots of the computers in the car reboot after a loss of power and it can just fix stuff, much like rebooting a PC.

Sounds like a faulty gps antenna.

Can be replaced for about a £10 part from eBay

Mine did this after leaving the battery off for a few hours, took a couple of days but eventually it sorted itself out.
