Hi everyone,
so I have been getting some strange clunks coming from my diff recently and after a bad experience I had from various shops disassembling it, I have decided that I am better of with a diff swap. Here in Greece, second hand diffs cost at least 400 euros. After searching on ebay I found a diff located in the UK that cost 85 euro. The guy says that it is from a Z that he drove for 3 weeks before taking it apart and that the diff seemed tight and with no clunking sounds etc. The diff is so cheap that I thought it's worth the risk. If the internal parts are ok is something we can only find out after the diff is on the car.
My question has to do with Rust. From the images I saw that there is quite a bit of rust on the outside of the diff. This is something I will scrub off but I was wondering if this rust could cause problems in the long run. Here in Greece rust is not common as in the UK so I am guessing maybe for many of you this rust on the diff is pretty common.
I would like to hear some of your experiences please.
