Rpi scoop and afe intake..

So ive just recieved my intake and scoop from strell and as keen as i was to fit it tonight i dont have an allen key to hand....
although i may nip to base tonight and see if i can work on it there...

but assuming i either fit it temproarily to see how it sounds or wait a while until ive got all the parts i need im thinking about getting it refinished to get rid of some corrosion build up....

having spoken to byron he thinks i should get it painted silver grey to match the car....

but im not sure what finish to use....i know ppl have raised concerns in the past about a loss of hp due to heat soak (im not gonn notice) but a finish to reduce this would be cool

this company is near me...
im wondering if i should choose to powdercoat it or try their PPA 571 finish....would the ppa finish reduce the amount of heat absorbed? at all...?

im probs gonna go down the powdercoat/primer route for ease.....

but my question is....what colour...?
do i stick with the black, do i go silver grey to match the car or do i go for red? also got the rpi scoop which i plan on doing the same colour...

what are your thoughts guys?
 
Is the heat thing still an issue if you have a scoop? I'm not sure. I think colour is a personal preference, but I'd go for black.
 
I went for black :) does anyone know how to take off the oem filter? It has these ill clip things with an arrow on it but have no idea how they undo?? I figured it would just be screws but alas I was wrong....

Once you've got the lid removed, if you just pull upwards whilst wriggling the bottom of the air-filter box, it'll come off one of the studs and then the second one will follow. Put a little bit of washing up liquid around the pins in the rubber first to make it a bit easier. :thumbsup:

least if i eff this up its a few snapped clips and thats it....rather than me appearing at a board of enquirery

Enjoy your new intake. You will love it!
Heat-soak only applies when ur stuck in traffic. As soon as you start moving your AIT's are the same as any other intake including stock. The term "Heat-soak" is thrown around far too much by people who have no 1st hand experience with these intakes.
 
i got an afe intake (billed as unused in an advert on here, may've been, but he fucked it up a bit trying not to use it...)

repainted the cover in some of that black heat resistant paint as it was flaking badly, several coats and it appears to be holding up well.

iirc the m version was more substantial than the non m version i got, sounds good at >5000rpm though..
 
I need to get some screws/bolts/nuts to fit the new intake.... Any one any idea which I need? Gonna go to halfords to get some but can't drive there after I've taken the old air box out. Any ideas??
 
I've never fitted one of these things, but don't the size of the holes in the metalwork give some clue? :poke:

I would've thought a few M6/8 nuts and bolts would do the trick. If that doesn't help, post a photo of where you need to use fasteners and we can then suggest what you might need.
 
Woots, what exactly ibtake and scoop you bought? Never heard of strel or whatever you called it.. do you have any pics of it, or maybe their website (google search shows nothing substantial..)

think it was M6 iirc, remember a bit of copper grease or something like that..

the hardest part is removing the lugs that hold the original on, they had a v odd action...a bit...german.
